Tattoos {Uta}

A/N - I've recently been reading the Tokyo Ghoul manga and I must say, my infatuation with Uta has been rekindled.

Once upon a time, there was a powerful, cunning ghoul who ruled over the 2nd ward with an iron fist. He was a lustful man who made regular "appointments" with various prostitutes. In a desperate attempt to live, human women would sell their bodies to the ghouls who controlled the 2nd ward. They were popular since the risk of pregnancy between humans and ghouls was close to 0%.

This led the leader to meet a certain woman. She was a ghoul but her gentle, caring nature made life in the 2nd ward difficult. Just to be clear, she wasn't weak; she was a peace-loving fool lost in a den of beasts. Surely enough, she became pregnant with the leader's child. She didn't tell him, it wouldn't have made a difference, causing her to suffer alone. In time, she gave birth to his daughter in the dirty back alleys of the 2nd ward.

She was confused, scared and after three years, she abandoned her baby girl. The bastard child struggled beyond imagination. She had to scavenge for food, eating leftover carcasses or anything she could get her mouth onto. By the age of five, she could use her kagune, a Bikaku type like her father. She developed a deep hatred toward the hellish parents that brought up her pitiful existence. Finding her mother was easy, they shared the same emerald green eyes and bright red hair.

As her mother's body laid limp in the grip of her kagune, the dying woman only said one thing, "So you lived..." The girl cannibalized her mother and began to gather information on the man who stood atop the 2nd ward. For the next seven years, the nameless child trained, killing ghoul after ghoul, claiming more territory. By the time the leader caught wind of the newest problem child, it was already too late. She had gained quite the reputation, earning the alias Little Red. At the tender age of twelve, she was skilled enough to challenge the leader, her father. After a clearly one-sided battle, the leader accepted his fate. For some reason, he remembered the young prostitute with that same bright red hair as Little Red as she crushed his skull under her foot.

Her father's subordinates knew about his "hobbies" and were hesitant to take the young girl as their leader. Little Red hated the 2nd ward so soon after she killed her father, she left that hellhole in the care of her uncle and became a wanderer. When she left, she became known was the "Little Red Riding Hood Who Devoured the Big Bad Wolf." She traveled from ward to ward, learning many things. By the time she was sixteen she had become a decent tattoo artist.

This is where we reach the present. Little Red chose to settle down in the violent 4th ward. She found a nice place to set up shop and declared her tattoo parlor a safe zone for both humans and ghouls in that chaotic ward. Word spread about her little shop and she soon had plenty of customers. Some of them were there for tattoos, others came for food or medical treatment, many came for information, even fugitives began showing up at her doorstep. Aside from having abnormally high stats, Red also has incredible healing ability. She had established her safe zone for nearly a year when she met him, No-Face, leader of the 4th ward. It happened rather naturally.

After one of his duals with Yomo, Uta was badly injured and instinctively fled. He ended up in a far off alley, bleeding profusely. The alluring scent of his blood drew Red to open her window and take a look around. She freaked out seeing his half dead state and immediately helped him inside. She laid him down on a bench inside her parlor and went to fetch a pail of water. When she came back, she was knocked to the ground and pinned there by a delirious Uta. He look ready to tear into her when she gave an exasperated sigh. Using dangerously sharp nails, Red slit the side of her neck open and offered him her blood, "Drink it, you'll feel better." He was surprised, but it didn't stop him from doing just that, he lapped at her neck his hot breath tickled her skin causing her to squirm underneath him.

Finally, Uta managed to calm down. He sat on a bar stool next to Red and sniffed her, "I don't recognize your scent. Who are you?" She gave him a soft smile, "I don't have a name, but everyone calls me Little Red. Oh, but just Red is fine. You're Uta, right?" He looked around the tattoo parlor, oohing and aahing, "Yeah, I didn't know places like this still existed in the 4th ward."

Red giggled at him, "I think this place is a bit different from the rest of the ward, it's a safe zone!" He seemed confused, "Like a shelter?"
"Yeah. I don't help "ghouls" or "humans", though, I came here to help people." Uta's beautiful kakugan slightly widened at her bold statement. They sat in silence for a while when suddenly, Red stood up from excitement, "Uta-kun, would you like a tattoo? I'll do any that you want!"

Since their fateful encounter, Uta has been visiting Red to discuss his tattoo designs. Slowly they began to know more about each other, he learned of her dark past and she received a mask from him as a gift. They spent countless hours sparring and training together. They enjoyed each other's company and became good friends.

One day, Uta barged into Red's tattoo parlor, filled with excitement and emotion. The rare sight nearly caused Red to drop her cup of coffee. "Red I know what tattoo I want!" Red smiled at him, "Talk to me, Uta."
"I want a sun."
"A sun? Why a sun?"
"Because of you."
His blunt explanation surprisingly sent Red's pulse racing and she blushed heavily.
"I-I still don't get you..."
Uta wore a sweet smile that he rarely shows anyone, "Ever since I've met you, you've given me tons of advice and I've been able to improve the 4th ward. But above that, you've been like a beacon of light, saving us from dark despair. That's why I want a sun, because you are a bright sun leading me to a better future."

Uta's honest, kind words stole her heart.
