"What!? A war is happening already? Why don't you just hand him over?" Then sadness hit me in the gut.

If he left then he would leave me and probably die. Spending his life with the enemy must make him the enemy too. No matter if he was blood related.

"What are you going to do?" I whispered.

"I don't know."

"But you have to do something. We can't just go to war. I'm your daughter. That means that this is my kingdom too. And it's also Ella's and Dad's. If you can't rule with an iron fist then I'll have to."

The Qu- I mean Mom looked at me. "You're so grown up. But still so young. You can't rule yet, even if you are next in line. I will have to die for you to become Queen."

"So what are we going to d-" Just then the doors flew open. Kaleb was standing there, panting hard.

He crossed his arms. "You can't change my mind. I have to face the Fire Queen one of these days and I choose now."

Mom stood up. "Sweetie, can I try to change your mind?"

He smiled. "You can try but you probably couldn't. Sorry Mother."

He grinned at me. "Why you looking so glum Lydia?" As I storm past him and out the door. "You are coming with me. Now!" I glared at him and storm to my room.

A few minutes later, Kaleb came in and sat next to me on my bed. "Look. I'm sorry but I have to do this. It can't be delayed any longer."

"But what will happen when you're gone? What if you di-"

Kaleb shushed me. "Don't you know not to talk like that?! I won't die. Jeez." Then he stood up and walked over to the door. But he stopped and said without turning around, "I won't die. For you." Then he was gone.
