Lost

Chapter One
Annabeth's POV

I had always been different from everyone else in my school and in my family. I was a demigod, a half-mortal child of Athena. Because of my demigod half, monsters were drawn to my family and attacked us; my dad and stepmom blamed me for this. They didn't like me, nor I them. I didn't want to stay with them, so when I was seven years old, I ran away.

Nights were cold and usually sleepless. The constant fear of monsters attacking at any moment typically kept me awake. In these restless nights, I looked up to the stars and studied the constellations while listening to the soft singing of the wind. Occasionally, I would hear an owl among the silence the darkness came with. It always made me think of my mother and seemed to comfort me. It was as if she were there with me. And in a way, I suppose she was.

At night, I hid myself in alleyways or sometimes I would find an open door leading to a garage and hid myself there. Every morning, I got up at sunrise and kept walking. I didn't know where I was going, I just went wherever I felt drawn, hoping that soon I would find a place where I would be safe.

For a few months, I was all alone.
