Mara's POV

The person took a step towards her and she put a hand out to stop them. "Woah, hold up, stay there."

"Oh! Sorry," they stop.

Mara took out her phone and turned on the flashlight, flashing it in her North's face and everywhere else. No weapons or anything that could hurt her. Just caramel skin and awesome light green eyes and short hair dyed with various pastel colors, dirty black jeans and what was once a nice t shirt, now covered in dirt, some smudges of blood and mud and bruises on their jaw and arms.

"Are you genderqueer or do you just have a really androgynous sense of style, because I can't really tell and like I don't want to assum--"

"I'm genderqueer. Agender, actually," they smiled. "My name is Corin."

Corin's POV

Corin sat up in bed, wincing at the pain in their chest and sides. This hurts like fracturing a rib even after 5 days!
They laughed, and they almost felt like crying at how much joy they felt. Finally the pain they were feeling was because of something good. No more fucking boobs! They no longer will feel caged, trapped in their body, because it was finally their body. They stood up, ignoring the pain, and grinned widely like they'd been doing all day since they got the blood bags and the bandages taken off to reveal reveal a flat chest! Corin was so happy, the happiest they'd ever remembered being in their life. They could prance around the whole town and serenade the world!

They pulled a plain black t shirt over their head carefully, slipped on some black jeans and grey Vans. Their multi-colored hair was a mess but okay enough to pass for that messy look so they left it alone and just passed a hand through it a few times.

Their mother peeked in with a smile. "How are you feeling, sweetie?"

Corin jumped up from the bed and gave their mom a hug and a peck on the cheek. "I'm amazing!"

Corin's mom gave them a smile and chuckled warmly. "I'm glad. Do you mind heading to the store to get some stuff? We're running out," she gave them a grocery list and a hundred dollar bill

"Sure, I'll go right now," Corin took it and tucked it in their front pocket before waving their mom goodbye. "Be back in an hour tops!"

Half an hour later

Corin was heading back home pushing the shopping cart down the streets of their neighbor(they'd made an deal that they'd bring it back right afterwards). They hummed along to a stray tune in their head and jumped up on the cart each time there was a naturally-ocurring crack on the sidewalk as to not step on them, a game they'd played since elementary school. Nevermind that they were 17, they could act childish for as long as they so pleased, plus they were having the best day ever, they deserved to be completely silly.

Corin turned down a street, only 2 more blocks away from their home when they heard a long blow of a whistle. And then again. Oh, crap. Corin sped the cart up, not bothering about the cracks now.

"Hey, hey, wait up, buddy!" a sarcastic voiced called out from behind Corin, getting closer.

"I told you, Tate, I don't want to fight with you!"
