Every life and every death... Changes the world in it's own way

-Gandhi

As soon as I pulled my jeep into the parking lot at our local high school, it started raining. "Lovely" I thought, so much for straight hair this morning. I drove around the parking lot for a couple minutes and found a spot in the farthest corner of the lot. This morning was just getting better and better.

I backed my jeep in the spot so I could get out easy when everyone else was thinking the same at 3 o'clock this afternoon.

Before I got out of the car I grabbed my spare jacket and my bag out of the back seat and threw the army green spring jackets hood over my head. I tried to tuck my hair into it the best I could so it wouldn't get too wet.

The spot I managed to find was tiny so I had squeeze along the car next to me trying not to hit my door on it. Of course I wasn't thinking and my bare legs were getting soaked and freezing. I tried bending in differnt ways to avoid it but it wasn't having it, so I gave up and just let my shorts get soaked through.

I slammed my door closed behind me and joined all the rest of the school in running to the front doors trying to block out the inevitable rain with our hands.

Finally I reached the front doors and squeezed through the packed doors enroute to my locker. When I was just around the corner from my locker I stopped at my friend Marcy's .

"Hey" I distracted her from making out with her current boyfriend Daren, she peaked from behind his shoulder

"Hey Lacey.." She giggled and gently pushed Daren away, signalling him to go " what's up?"

"Not much, just got here. How's my hair?" I pointed to my likely Afro

"...um... Come with me" Marcy locked her locker, motioned me to follow and lead me to me to the closest bathroom.

Once we were there she pulled out a ponytail and brush out of her oversized bag. With this though came more than just the two things. A bottle of prescription pills fell out of her bag... Marcy didn't need pills, at least her body didn't... They bounced down on the floor.

"Marcy!!!" I gasped, she quickly grabbed the bottle from the ground and stuffed them back in her bag.

"You told me you'd stopped!" I nagged

"I did... For a bit... I'm sorry Lacey! I just can't do it without them!" She wailed

"But you can Marcy! You can!" I sighed

Marcy looked at the ground ashamed, then sighed and started on my hair. It was a shame that she wasted her life on alcohol, drugs and guys who could never care about her. She was amazing with hair and anything cosmetic.

Marcy had beautiful blonde shoulder length hair that was alway perfect, every piece in place. And her makeup was always stunning and flawless to go with her creamy hazel eyes. She looked like she was from the front of a magazine, one of those high fashion ones.

My head tingled as she pulled the brush through my hair, erasing all the knots. She then started at the right side of my head and French braided along the back of my head till she reached the middle of my skull. She stopped and put the ponytail in then turned the rest into a intricate bun.

"Wow.." I fawned, it was even better than before the rain " thank you! Your great!"

"No worries" she smiled, but she was still off from when I saw the pills.

I pulled her in for a hug and I think I felt a single tear slide down her face wetting my shoulder. I gave her a pat on the back and then headed out into the hallway to get my binder and textbooks.

I pushed my way through the crowed hall to my locker. I grabbed my social stuff as it was my first class and just as I was locking my locker, the first bell rang.

Suddenly then, everyone in the hall was moving quickly, squeezing by one another. I joined in, pushing back everyone who had pushed me just as hard.

Finally I reached social class through the crowed halls. I sat down in my desk in the far back. I wasn't a bad student, 70's, 80's usually but I just really didn't want to listen to our social teacher Mr.Khun blabber on about World War One.

Half an hour into social, my name came over the announcements

" Lacey Dameon to the office please, Lacey Dameon" I looked at Mr.Khun quick and he gave me a nod to go. I grabbed my books and threw my bag on my shoulder just in case and headed out the door.

The hallways were pretty empty on the way down... It was odd. Everything being quiet in a place that was so meant to be loud and obnoxious

When I got to the office I saw our principal Mrs.Tiller waiting by the counter. She'd been friends with my mom since before I could remember. She was always there... Even when my dad left us...there that goes again, creeping into my thoughts constantly....

"Hey Lacey!" She came around and gave me a hug " Love your hair today!"

"Thanks" I chuckled, I didn't tell her Marcy had done it as Mrs. Tiller had made it pretty obvious she did not approve of her or our friendship

"So," she lead me down the office hallway, going towards her office " how's it been lately?"

"It's been ok" I offered her

"Just ok? What's wrong?" She sounded worried so I tried to make it seem like nothing

"Nothing haha" I smiled and laughed a little to reassure her, hoping she'd fall for it

"Ok well you know where I am if you need me" she smiled back, jokingly pointing at me

Finally we had reached her office and she opened the door and ushered me in and sat down behind her desk.

Sitting on the farther chair of the two on the opposite side of her desk was a guy probably about my age.

He had short brown hair that was scattered and messy looking and deep hazel eyes. He wore a casual t-shirt and skinnies with a pair of converse. Pretty average, but something about the look in his eyes told me he knew so much more about me whereI didn't know his first name.
