The Search

Chapter 7: Date Night

     I was staring at my phone. Where is sheeeeeee? I was whining to myself. It was hot, and I was standing outside the shelter. I had to stay patient. We all know she's obsessed with pitbulls. So she's probably just in there playing with Buddy. Buddy was the shelters most recent rescue. He was still a puppy and the cutest little baby you've ever seen. I had to admit, Papi had good taste in dogs.
     I was right too. Papi walked out and had Buddy on a leash. "What's this?" I said laughing and playing with my new little friend.
     "Boss asked me to take him home with me. She saw how much I loved him. Said I could watch him for the whole weekend. Just have to bring him back Monday morning."
     I was sure that wasn't anywhere near legal, but it wasn't a big deal. I mean we'd done it a couple times before but only for Friday night. And the truth was, Arianna was going to adopt him once he was 100 percent rehabilitated. "Yay. Looks like you're gonna be hanging with us for a bit Bud."
     "Wait you're actually ok with this?" She sounded shocked.
     "Of course. Buddy's pretty much already family. Just need the papers. Isn't that right?" Buddy was barking at Arianna. Is was so cute.
     She smiled at me. "This is why you're bae." She picked buddy up and we walked to the car.
     "Nope. I'm bae cause you love me." I kissed her cheek.
     "Yeah that too."

     Because Buddy would be spending the weekend with us, it was decided that we wouldn't go out, but just chill at the house. Either way I was happy.
     On the way back, we picked up a few movies, some snacks, and some puppy stuff. We stepped in the door and Buddy took off running. He had a special spot in Papi's room, and he remembered exactly where it was. He had tired himself out and fell asleep on his little bed.
     "Well I guess this means it's just gonna be me and you tonight after all," Papi said and brought me close to her.
     "Best date night I could ever think of." We laughed. And then the kiss. Her lips were soft, but her kisses were strong. Never in a bad way. They're strong because they meant something. I had never felt so much in such a short period of time. Everything with Arianna was perfect.
We walked over to her bed and just laid there. More cuddle time was exactly what I needed. But before anything could happen buddy woke up barking. I leaned over, picked him up, and put him on the bed. He chased his tail for a minute and then settled down, falling asleep again. It was only 10:38 pm, but after the day we had, we both fell asleep too. But Papi still had me in her arms.
