"Hey Mia, I'm going to explore the grounds while we wait. I don't think I can sit still for much longer!" I tell her as I walk towards one of the back doors.
"Okay, just don't be long and don't go far." She replies. I swear she is like the mom I never had and I am not complaining.
Brian and Dom were off doing who knows what with all the equipment they had and Mia was pretty much babysitting me. I could tell that she was itching to help them with whatever they were doing so I figured I could walk around for a little and make myself occupied. I walk out to the hot Brazilian day and almost immediately regret coming out here. I walk towards these really rusted stairs and walk up, praying these don't turn into powder. I make it to a small balcony and see another door that leads into the warehouse. I look at the scenery and my breath is taken away. I don't think I could ever get over how beautiful it is here. The rolling hills look infinite. I can't wait to see this place when the sun is setting. I can already tell I'll be spending most of my time here. All I need is a chair and a guitar and I'm all set!
After a while, the heat picks up some more and I decide to go back in. Also, I don't need Mia worrying about where I am because of her condition. I decide to try and see where the mysterious door leads. "Shit." I mutter under my breath. I can't get it to open! After what seemed like an eternity, I got it to open. I had to use some leg strength so hopefully it still shuts! I walk in and I take in the room. There's not much in here besides some empty boxes. I walk towards the edge of the room and in front of me is another balcony over looking the main room where Mia and the guys are in. It's sort of like a loft. I'm overlooking them and see that they don't notice me. Obviously they wouldn't seeing that it is pitch black up here. There is only a little light being shed by the crack that I left in the door. It doesn't reach far out though. I start to walk back out when I hear the engine of a car. I look over to see who it is and I see two guys. One is wearing a leather jacket and the one-stepping out of the car is wearing a striped blue, polo shirt.
"Aww hell, nah! I see they really scraped the bottom of the barrel, huh?" The guy with the polo shirt says. I don't see Mia and the guys anywhere! I automatically go into defense mode. I walk quietly to the steps that lead to the lower level and wait to find the perfect moment to strike. Thank God Dom gave me another gun.
"I guess they did, since yo ass is here," says the guy in the leather jacket. I guess they know each other, judging by their conversation.
"When you gonna give Martin Luther King his car back?" Leather jacket man asks. Ha, funny.
"As soon as you give Rick James his jacket back." Blue polo man says. I try to hold back my snort, but I can't. Thank God they start laughing and give each other that handshake hug that men always do. As they do this, another person shows up. This time in a motorcycle, and it catches the two guys off guard. They look over, as do I and I start to panic because Brian, Mia and Dom are nowhere in sight.
The person on the motorcycle stops in front of the guys and takes off the helmet. To my surprise, it's a woman. Gorgeous at that! She had long, brown hair and was dressed in all black.
"Sexy legs, baby girl. What time do they open?" Leather jacket man says, walking up the lady. Ugh, disrespectful. Out of nowhere, she pulls out a gun and points it to him. "They open the same time as I pull this trigger. Want me to open them?" She says. That'll teach his ass. She has an accent that I can't quite place. Leather jacket man's ego falters for a little and he lets out a nervous giggle. I hear someone laugh and speak in Spanish from the other side of the room and see another pair of guys. This must be the dream team.
"Hey, anybody can talk shit in Spanish, homie." Leather jacket man says. The two Hispanic guys are walking up to the small group. One of them is just a little taller than the other. They look like they could be related, honestly. The taller one is wear jeans and a tan button up shirt. His hair is short compared to his friend's. The shorter one is wearing a white polo shirt and some dark jeans. Once the get closer to the group, they drop their bags in front of them.
The taller one and Leather jacket man start mocking each other. They are acting like children!
"Who are these clowns, man?" Leather jacket man asks blue polo man. I can't wait to know what their names are!
"Circus clowns," Blue polo man responds. They start to argue..... In English and in Spanish. They do not understand each other, but it doesn't stop them. I don't notice that someone else showed up until I hear his voice. I look at the newest addition to the group and instantly recognize him.
"I thought cockfights were illegal in Brazil," he says to the gorgeous brunette.
I hear Dom before I see him, interrupting my thoughts.
"I see you all met." Brian and Mia are behind him as they walk up to the group. They all changed into different shirts. Dom is sporting a beige polo, and Brian has a dark blue one on. What is up with the polo shirts? And Mia is wearing a plaid button up shirt. Knowing that I would have to eventually show myself, I put my hair in a messy bun and walk down the stairs.
"Except for one other person. My name is Avery." I say walking up behind the group. They all look at me as I walk towards them, but I maintain my composure even though I am so damn nervous. "Don't mind me though. You can continue with whatever it was you were doing." I tell them. The brunette smiles and walks over to Dom.
"You know when you called me to come to Rio, I assumed it would for something more exciting than this." She hugs him and I just watch all the interactions. Hugs and kisses all the way around. I've never felt more out of place in my life.
"We've met before." He startles me. I look over when I answer him.
"Yes, we have. I'm surprised you remember and I don't think you ever mentioned your name."
"Han. Hard to forget your face." He says, eating a bag of chips. I think I could've died in that moment. I was blushing. Badly. He's wearing an almost white, button up shirt with weird print on it. Underneath he was wearing a white shirt. His pants were sort of khaki. I am really into his appearance. that is until Brian distracts me from the view.
"Nice to meet you, Han." I tell him. This world is so small. Why must he be so dreamy?!
"Hey Avery! Come meet the guys!" I hear Brian tell me from across the room. I walk over and he tells me that the leather jacket man's name is Roman and blue polo man is Tej.
"Nice to meet you," I tell them as we shake hands.
"Damn... Where have you been hiding?" Roman says to me.
"Don't even think about it." I tell him.
"You have no game, bro." Tej tells him and making Brian and I laugh.
Mia introduces me to Santos and Leo. Santos being the taller guy and Leo being the one with the crazy curly hair. Dom then introduces me to the gorgeous brunette, Giselle. Once all the introductions are made, I learn a bit about everyone. Tej is computer geek, Roman and Brian go way back, Santos and Leo are trained thieves, Giselle is just a bad ass, and Han is as smooth as can be.
"So what's this all about, Dom?" Han asks the million-dollar question. Finally, the good stuff.
"Yeah, man. Why did you drag us halfway around the world?" Tej asks.
"Because we got a job." Is all Dom answers them.
