Two females and three males consisted of Ian’s family. The two women were like night and day. The first had blond hair down to her waist, gray eyes, the palest skin I’ve ever seen, with the most petite features, and wore a friendly smile. She was dressed kinda modern retro. Or maybe it was all retro that just fit today’s fashion trends.
The second woman had short black choppy hair that stuck out in all directions. She had high cheek bones, beautiful russet skin, and dark penetrating eyes. Her choice of clothing was pretty relaxed with blue capris, and a white spaghetti strap tank. Guess vampires really don’t feel the cold.
The men all looked intently at me, and this time I fought the urge to huddle behind Ian. One man had pale skin, green eyes, and red hair. He seemed toned, not too big, but definitely larger than Ian. Another had brown hair, and eyes that sent ice down my back. He was tall, and thoroughly built like a bouncer, dressed all in black. Last was Drake with his streaked blonde hair, and exquisitely expensive taste in suits. Drake stood smiling at me allowing me to relax a little bit.
“Everyone, this is Ashlyn. You will all welcome her, and be on your best behavior,” Ian announced. “Ashlyn, this is Evelyn, but everyone addresses her as Eve or Evie,” he motioned to the petite blonde as she moved forward to curtsy in front of me. My eyebrows rose at the display. She offered me a tight smile.
“Next up is Kateri,” Ian continued. The Native American beauty stepped gracefully forward.
“It’s good to finally meet the object of his obsession at last,” Kateri said in means of introduction.
“Thanks, I think,” I responded. “Although, it’s only been days.”
“He obviously hasn’t mentioned that we don’t need to sleep. Ian talks about you non-stop. It’s almost annoying, actually,” She smiled to soften her words. I smiled shyly back.
“Alright, on with the men, Drake you’ve met. Daegan is on the left,” Ian said motioning towards the redhead. “And Rune is on the right.” Daegan waved and smiled a little shyly, but Rune only grunted. Holding tightly to Ian’s hand I watched as Rune stomped closer. I guess I know who disproves of Ian’s choices the most.
As if to accentuate that thought Rune spoke angrily, “Now that you’ve brought her home you can take your little human tryst back where she belongs.” It felt like a slap to the face, and it pissed me off.
“Back off you greasy snake. Ian can make his own choices, and he doesn’t need your input. At least show him the same courtesy he shows you. ” Rune hissed displaying his fangs at me while everyone else stood silent for a moment all staring at me, before they all busted up laughing. All but Rune, and I. Rune I could tell was back to silently fuming underneath the glint of amusement shining on his face.
“Well she’s got spunk. I’ll give you that,” Daegan announced. Spunk? Is that supposed to be a complement?
“What is she wearing?” I heard Evie ‘whisper’ to Kateri, who simply rolled her eyes.
“Pardon me, I was ill prepared to meet you this fine day, milady,” I said back feigning a curtsey. Evie lifted an eyebrow at me, while the rest of the clan chuckled softly.
“I think I need to get you to the office so that we can get started,” Ian interrupted.
“Fine by me,” I replied as Ian let go of my hand to wrap his arm around my waist to pull me closer, and kiss the top of my head. I noticed as Ian pulled me out of the foyer that his eyes remained on his family. Whether in warning or foreboding I don’t know.
Ian seemingly relaxed as we entered the office off to the right from the main hallway. Closing the door behind us, I heard a soft click when Ian turned from me.
