"Move out of my way, nerd," and as quickly as she had walked into me, she was gone. I let out a sigh, leaning against my locker. It was the same with every other boy in the school. No-one could ignore Natasha with her long, auburn hair and piercing green eyes.
Having only joined the school last year, she instantly became popular. Everyone wanted to be her friend, but she never talked to people. Natasha kept herself to herself and that was they way things were.
I snapped out of my daydream and gathered my books; science, English and maths. What a lovely fun-filled afternoon in high school. As the smallest boy in the year, I easily slid through the crowds of students and got to my class before anyone else. Miss Hill let me into the science lab and let me work on one of the laptops.
A few moments later, the infamous Natasha entered the classroom. A horde of boys were trailing behind her as she shut the door in their faces. I think one boy got a nosebleed from the impact. I didn't look up from the laptop keyboard as I heard Miss Hill discussing homework with Natasha. "I'm sorry, but I can't let you off again Ms Romanoff. You have to hand in your homework or we call home."
Natasha moaned. "You don't understand Miss Hill!" She sounded very close to crying. "There isn't anyone at home. I'm in care." My eyes flicked towards them, peeking over the rim of my glasses. Natasha sat down on one of the stools and Miss Hill tried to comfort her.
"I understand. I'll find out if there's a way we can support you at your house, and take it from there, yes?" Natasha nodded and wiped the tears from her cheeks. "Just don't let anyone else know?" Miss Hill smiled at her. "It will be completely confidential." Suddenly, Miss Hill remembered I was in the classroom and she gulped.
Natasha looked my way and walked over to me. She grabbed a stool and moved my laptop out of the way. "You tell anyone about this nerd, and I'll see that you will regret it for the rest of your life," she hissed. I nodded quickly and she smiled at Miss Hill, the teacher leaving to sort out a phone call to wherever Natasha lived.
"Hang on. Aren't you the dweeb that walked into me earlier?" She said, staring straight into my eyes. I pushed my glasses back up onto the bridge of my nose and stumbled over my words. "Well um actually, Natasha, I, well, you walked into me."
I had no idea what she was thinking but she was silent for a moment before bursting out in a colourful laugh. "Yeah well, I like the power I have over the male species," she said, a twinkle in her eyes. I felt my palms getting clammy and I wiped them under the desk on my trousers.
"What are you doing in here so early then?" I pointed to my laptop and tried to explain, but my tongue had lost its function. Natasha ignored me and looked at the laptop, working it out for herself. "So you want to study this stuff?" I gave a nod. "Isn't radiation really dangerous?"
Somehow, I found my voice and answered her clearly. "Well it can be but only in large doses. I've calculated a number of experiments for the various forms of radiation that, if I get into the line of work, I would like to carry out." She seemed interested but I couldn't tell if she was just being nice or not. But the Natasha I had seen wasn't nice.
