Time Travel rules

The next day, I went into school with a big smile printed onto my face. I had no friends, and I was usually picked on, but I didn't care anymore. I texted Nat to say I'd be in the library during lunch and then we could go to physics together. My morning lessons went slowly in my anticipation of seeing her later on.

"I wonder if she'll sit next to me again," I thought to myself. I walked from the West Wing of the school, past art, past drama, and up the two flights of stairs to get to the library. I perched myself on my usual seat in the corner and buried myself in my favorite book; I loved time travel.

Half an hour went past and I went outside to see if Nat was coming. She wasn't. I went back into the library and asked Mr Atkin, the librarian, if he had seen her come in. He shook his head and began to ramble on about some new books that I might be interested in. I thanked him and made my way back to my seat.

As I walked along the length of the room, I got out my phone and texted Nat, asking where she was. Suddenly, there was a ping from the corner; my corner. I stepped forward and there was Nat, except she was entwined with the American boy; faces joined at the lips. "Nat?" my voice was croaky in shock.

The American went red in the face as if he wasn't used to such a situation. "Well I'll just take my things then," I mumbled, grabbing my bag and book from beneath their feet. "Bruce, wait," Nat called after me. There were only a few minutes until the end of lunch anyway, and then it was Physics.

As I always did with Physics, I arrived early to the lesson and Miss Hill let me in. I got out a laptop and tried to carry on my advanced work. Unfortunately, my emotions had other ideas and tears made their way down my cheeks.

"Bruce? Are you ok back there?" Miss Hill was at the front at her desk, so I must have been making some noise. I nodded and sniffed, wiping my nose on my sleeve. "Now come on Bruce," she said, walking towards me. "Tell me what's up. Is it the advanced program? I can help you with it if that's what you need?" I sniffed again and shook my head. "I thought I'd just got a friend," I muttered.

Miss Hill beamed at me. "Well that's great news! Oh, hang on. Thought?" She put her hand on my shoulder and I started to cry again. She sighed and left me to it, as the class began flowing into the room. No-one looked my way and the usual students sat around me. Nat turned up five minutes late and avoided my line of sight, sitting in her allocated seat by Miss Hill's desk.
