Loneliness makes things happen

A few minutes later, I got a text from her. "I'm sorry Bruce. I don't know what happened." I sighed and tried to listen to Miss Hill. My phone vibrated again. "Please Bruce, just listen to me after school?" I ignored the messages that continued to come for the next hour. I tied to pack away quickly, which was a challenge, and sped out of the classroom. I couldn't understand why I was so angry. I mean, I had only talked to her for a couple of days!

No matter how miffed I was with her, I felt I had enough manners to wait for her at the school gates. She came out ten minutes after me, and in a bit of a hurry. "Can we go to the park down the road? It's just Clint is looking for me and I think he knows about Steve." I looked at her, confused at the name. "Steve is the new American kid, the one that looks like he's stuck in the 1920's or whenever World War 2 was," I nodded and we walked down the road.

We sat down on a bench in the park and Nat turned off her phone; it was constantly being called by Clint. "Look, Bruce. I'm so sorry I didn't meet you when I said I would. I'm not very organized and I've had a hard time recently with the home and that," She trailed off, embarrassed that she was living in care. "Don't worry about it. I just don't understand why you were so... So close with Steve. Surely you saw my stuff as well?"

Nat looked to the floor and nodded slowly. "He was alone and I was alone and we've been talking quite a bit over the past few days. I thought he liked me, a bit like Clint used to. So I stopped my flirting and cut to the chase just as you walked in. To be perfectly honest, I don't think he'd ever kissed anyone before." I blushed slightly, aware that I hadn't kissed anyone before either. She noticed my cheeks had changed colour and apologized again.
