I sighed and doodled cat faces on a piece of lined paper. Science never appealed to me despite my high grades in it. Sensei had taken every opportunity to make my tests harder than the last. His excuse was to push my limits in the field.

Maehara and two other students waited by the door for Koro-Sensei to return. And he did, but somehow managed to dodge three knives while setting up our science lab.

I looked at the chemicals I was given. I hazily recalled reading about the experiment from a science text book on the main campus. If memory served dropping a piece of sodium metal into water to create a reaction.

Koro-Sensei was talking to another student explaining what the experiment was to demonstrate. Personally I believed he just wanted to do a cool experiment.

I yawned and scribbled down the basic information about the experiment.

Experiment

Formula:
2 Na + 2 H2O → 2 Na+ + 2 OH- + H2(g)
Materials:
Water (H2O)
Sodium metal (NA)
250 ml beaker, filled halfway
Directions:
While wearing gloves, remove a very small chunk (0.1 cm3) of sodium metal from the piece stored in the oil.
Drop the piece of sodium into the water. Immediately stand back! As water dissociates into H+ and OH-, hydrogen gas will be evolved. The increasing concentration of OH- ions in the solution will raise its pH.
(Sometimes this reaction is performed using a small piece of potassium metal instead of sodium. Potassium is even more reactive than sodium, so if the substutition is made it is important to use a very small piece of potassium metal and to expect a potentially explosive reaction between the potassium and water. Extreme caution is advised.)

With another yawn I set my head down and dozed off.

Time Skip

I decided to ditch going to the school assembly and found a comfortable spot to nap in tree. I closed my eyes and let my mind drift, waiting for drowsiness to overtake me.

It didn't overtake anything. In fact it distanced itself. My mind had snagged on the thought of what would have happened if I had gone to the assembly. The sneers and harassing remarks from the ugly class A girls...

I guess that's what happens when you focus on looks instead of your studies!

That same odd feeling in my chest returned. However this time it was uncomfortable almost to the point it hurt. Would he too call me pitiful? One of the few people I trusted or even considered a friend was now so far away.

I guess he wasn't much of a friend I guess. He was one of the few people who treated me kindly though. Honestly, he reminds me of Akabane who seemed to always have ulterior motive.

I shook my head and pushed the thoughts away. I couldn't develop feelings for Asano...
