"Nice work everybody! Your pointed toes are coming along nicely!" I grabbed my water bottle as my second oldest class began to gather their things.
Sophie, an outspoken junior spy, turns to me along with her friends. "Miss Carmichael?"
I looked at her, still drinking.
"This is a slightly personal question, but are you and Mr Lynch dating?"
"Mr Lynch as in Ross' dad?" I breathed out.
"No! We mean as in you and Ross..dating?" She inched closer, the subject matter obviously interesting them. I flared my nostrils, feeling my cheeks redden. "You're blushing!"
"Okay- we had a slight thing before I left, but we just have a good, platonic friendship now" I smiled.
"I'm not taking that, you guys would be so cute together!" She pleaded and her friends copied. I giggled. "Can I have him?"
"I'm afraid you're a bit too young, but he may open an exception-"
And the moment his voice came from behind me, I screamed louder than I hoped to. "Exception for what?"
"Sophie" I pointed to her. "Now, go ahead and work on your toes!"
"That sounds scary" Ross put his hands on his hips, then waved them away. I couldn't help but laugh as they totally swooned at that one gesture. "How are you? You don't look as destructed as I expected you to be"
"Thanks for the faith! But, you're a bit sweaty" I nodded at his hair.
"I'm not sweating, I got drenched by the sprinklers, but ignore it" he told me. "I want to take you somewhere"
I collected my things and followed him to one of the new, techy buildings. Like the others, the equipment looked highly expensive, and delicate, music playing softly in the background.
Ross lead me to a room that reminded me slightly of a doctor's room. It had all of the medical equipment, a desk with a computer and everything. The only new thing was the medicine cabinet that contained small vials, a different coloured liquid for each row. He went for the second bottom row after punching in some digits to unlock the cabinet, grabbing two vials holding a dark blue liquid.
Skilfully, he connected four sensors to a machine and then added sticky pads to them, before attaching one to his left temple and one to the left of his chest. He then proceeded to doing the same to me.
"Is it too late to ask what is going on?" I chuckled.
"I wanted to show you the new test for recruits, but why show it to you physically when you can live it through my memories?" He said, opening a drawer. I sat down on the stretcher.
"That is some Divergent shit, right there"
"We took some ideas from it- hand, please" he clipped an oximeter to my finger, and then one to mine. "It's either I crush you by laying on you, you lay on me or one of us awkwardly lays on the floor"
"God sake" I huffed, allowing him to lay on the stretcher. Awkwardly, I climbed over him until I gave up and moved to the front, having to have half my body on his, and the other hanging awkwardly in the air.
The room was filled by a squeal, as I almost flew off, but he luckily caught me. "I have an idea"
He laid on his side and I laid on my side.
"Give me your left hand" he grabbed it. "Hopefully this works, meet you inside my head."
"Bottoms up!" I giggled.
