Glass Animals

blue lights line the floor

casting shadows of

ocean waves and one too many

tidal times go ticking by

red-eyed dreamer stumbles

your head gently floats along

gets lost in

the purple haze that

encompasses these glass animals

cigarette smoke fills the room

drawing patterns through the air

a haphazard artist

empty gallery hangs

wet lips and dry clothing

left your yellow umbrella at the door

pressed up against

(left up against)

it doesn't matter who

her eyes are distant moons

illuminating alleyways

and old benches in the park

strands of gold falling over

starving shoulders

and he doesn't even care

hand in hand

sweat on sweat

skin on skin

god showed me a while ago

that no one wins

drowning in

slurred speech, velvet whispers

hot breath against your ear

sober thoughts without a voice

falling through the floor

the piano sounds so heavy

these words sound much heavier

friend, please

I need

somebody

to drive me home
