I had been hiding inside the bathroom for at least an hour because the first period bell rang and so did the bell that indicated the end of the period. I had heard people come in and out of the bathroom and leave behind interesting smells.

I had heard a whole bunch of gossips from different types of girls. All girls gossiped no matter how high and might you acted you gossiped, it was in girls nature to gossip. I heard that William Sparks was the hottest guy to grace the school, Madison Rogers was a hoe and stole the boyfriend of Gretchen, and they were going to have a confrontation match at lunch. Out of all the mindless gossip that swirled there throughout the hour none of it really fazed me it was normal it happened in every high school but one tidbit of information stuck with me since I heard it, Locke Reeves was the scariest asshole to ever grace these halls. I don’t know why but this Locke person intrigued and wanted to find out more about him.

Ok Leah you are a smart and…. Well you have a lot more good qualities and right now you need to man up, get out of the stall, go to second period and hope to god that mom doesn’t find out that you unknowingly and unwillingly cut 1st period.  Come on Leah you can do it. With renewed confidence I ran out of the bathroom and stopped in the middle of the hallway.

I had no idea where my second period class was. I should just die here and now. “Hey.” I heard a distant voice call. When I turned my head up it was some nerd looking boy with a badge that read hall monitor, here I thought that they only existed in movies.

“Hi.” I whispered back. He just looked at me weirdly but I didn’t blame him, he was staring at a girl in fetal position and in the middle of a panic attack.

“Do you need help?” He asked cautiously.

“Yes can you direct me to Ms. Sanchez English class?” I asked.

“Uh yeah it’s down the hall when you turn left just go up a flight of stairs and go down the hallway till you see room 302.” I got up from my fetal position and hugged the gracious hall monitor.

“Thank you so much.” With that I ran down the hall before he could give me a late pass, I knew there job was to make people’s lives miserable.

I followed his direction and stopped in front of room 302, by the looks of it class had already started and the teacher was in the middle of a lesson, I didn’t want to disrupt but I didn’t have a choice. I knocked softly and immediately all heads turned to me. Ms. Sanchez smiled politely and opened the door.

“You must be the new student Leah Mitchell.” She put her hand on my lower back and guided me to the center of the room and asked, “Please introduce yourself to the rest of the class.”

Great the moment of truth, if I had the confidence to man up and introduce myself to a room of strangers, I don’t think I do.

I cleared my throat and began with a simple, “Hi I’m Leah Mitchell and I’m from Colorado I just moved here three months ago.”

I was going to take a seat in the first empty seat I saw but one person had to ask a question too personal to answer and if I didn’t answer rumors would run in abundance.

“Why did it take you three months to enroll in school?” She was just your normal I wanna be cool by ridiculing the new kid.

“Um I just didn’t find a school I liked.” I mumbled out and rushed to the empty seat.

I sat next to a random stranger but he was engrossed in his book and the hoodie covers his face hopefully he would ignore for the rest of the year.

“Alright class,” Ms. Sanchez began, “As you may see, your desks are not single but joint and for this class I would have you become very much acquainted with your seating partner because in this class not only will you study the emotions and writing of the books but of the people around you. Look toward the board and begin with these questions.” Ms. Sanchez ripped the white paper on the board and revealed the sample questions.
