Branches rustled under a strong gust of wind, casting long shadows over the camp clearing. The silence was broken by a streak of lightning and a pained yowl.

The Shadowclan medicine cat, Mintbreeze, tried to calm Driftswipe with gentle murmurs, "Don't worry Driftswipe," and "They're nearly here," he continued to say.

Out of all honesty, the kitting wasn't going too well. There was a lot of blood and it was taking a long time, Mintbreeze wasn't sure what would happen. Bonerun, the new Shadowclan deputy, paced anxiously outside of the Nursery. He cringed everytime Driftswipe yowled. The rest of the Shadowclan cats were clustered together in little groups, murmuring about Driftswipe. They felt terrible for Bonerun to have to listen to his mate cry out.

But what they didn't know was that there was a strange cat nearby.

Iceheart quietly watched, patiently waiting for the first kit to be born. This kit could change the fate of the clans if he seized the right moment. The Starclan cat perched next to Driftswipe with his tail twitching to and fro.

Whiskers trembling with excitement, he repeated the prophecy in his head, find the lost warriors to help fight the lasting darkness... Great Starclan! It was his second prophecy that he was going to be muttering in a cat's ear, yet it was even more peculiar than the last!

Iceheart was shaken out of his thoughts when the first kit suddenly came with a heave from Driftswipe, and he watched with anticipation as Mintbreeze feverishly licked its fur.

Mintbreeze let out a surprised gasp, "It's a she-kit but..."

Driftswipe frowned and wearily glanced at the kit, her eyes widening with shock, "She looks like her, doesn't she?" she mewed sadly.

Iceheart flicked his ears at the Shadowclan cats' observation, it was the reason why he was even there in the first place. Knowing he would need to be quick, he shifted forwards a few paw-steps, but just as he was about to make his move, another figure stepped out of the shadows. Iceheart whipped around and fixed an icy stare onto the white she-cat. He bristled and narrowed his eyes before carefully unsheathing his claws and digging them into the sodden ground.

"You shouldn't be here, Glowstar," Iceheart bluntly mewed. He was uncomfortable in his former leader's presence, almost as if he was a misbehaving kit being caught by his mother. Sharpstar never said I'd have to deal with this, Iceheart thought, thinking back to when the russet she-cat shooed him off to deliver the prophecy.

Glowstar flicked her tail and cackled, "Oh, Iceheart, I always knew you'd be a traitor to Riverclan."

Suddenly, rage ignited deep in Iceheart's chest and coursed through him, leaving his fur burning despite the cold rain. "It's nice not to see you in Starclan!" Iceheart retorted with a snarl.

Anger flashed in Glowstar's eyes, though she ignored him and fixed her gaze on Driftswipe. With a choked cry and another heave, Driftswipe gave birth to another kit.

Glowstar was eyeing the first kit and her lip twitched with disgust. She made a move toward it. Bunching her legs, the former Riverclan leader sprang at the first kit with her claws outstretched.

Iceheart didn't waste a moment as he leapt and met Glowstar in midair. The two clashed to the ground with their claws swiping and tails lashing. Iceheart hissed in pain, his teeth clenched as Glowstar dug her claws into his chest. Iceheart kicked her off, only having a heartbeat to spring to his paws before Glowstar launched herself at him once more. He ducked from her claws to nip at her chest before he twisted onto his forepaws and bucked, landing a kick to her nose. Glowstar hissed in anger and snatched Iceheart's plumy tail between her teeth, yanking backwards. Stumbling, Iceheart buckled to the ground and managed to roll onto his back before Glowstar leapt on him. Merciless claws battered his face and he feebly raised his paws to defend the blows.

Heartbeats later, Glowstar stood over a motionless Iceheart and triumphantly lashed her tail before turning to Driftswipe who was nuzzling her newborn kits. Iceheart weakly watched as the white she-cat bent down to whisper into the second kit's ear, gently placing a paw over his pelt. After a heartbeat, she took a step back and smirked at Iceheart before vanishing.

Iceheart took a deep breath and heaved himself to his paws. He sighed before stumbling over to Driftswipe and her kits. He placed a trembling paw over the first kit's pelt and quietly murmured the prophecy into her ear, "Young kit, find the lost warriors to help fight the lasting darkness. Do not trust him..." Iceheart slowly stepped away and mournfully watched the family before dissolving.
