Only twice in the history of the Law has there been somebody who has actually attempted running from their fate; neither of them lived a week after they began running. The younger one, a girl named Emily Klein, known to her friends as Emmie, was the government’s first example of what exactly happened when you run from the Law. They killed her on a live webcast six months after the Law had been released to the public; she was one of the very first casualties.

Emmie had been missing two days when Government officials found her hiding in an undocumented basement of a warehouse in downtown Sacramento. America, being the world’s powerhouse, had to be the strictest when it came to making sure the rules were abided by. If the rules are broken, you will be broken. The day before they started her torture, there was an announcement all across compacts, internet and television; it was so important to the government that everybody see what happens when you break the rules, that they themselves broke laws in order for people to watch the girl get murdered live. First, they broke the internet dependency Act of 2017, which stated that all news and events would not be posted on a compact until two days after such event had originally been posted. Second, they broke the law regarding gore and such being released on the internet. Over the course of one, single day, the government took over everything they promised they would leave be, just to make sure one girl was killed.

The broadcast went live at 4:00pm on Saturday, January 19, 2023. The feed appeared and there Emily Klein sat, tied to a chair in front of the camera, eyes wide with fear, and blood pouring down the side of her face. Mixing with the dirty blood that the government had caused were the salty tears that seemed to pour effortlessly.

Almost immediately, the television stations attempted removing the broadcast from their programming, only to be threatened by the government; the broadcast stayed. Everywhere people looked, from the few televisions in store windows, to the compacts held at their wrists, to even the computers in the classrooms, her face shined brightly from the screens.

“This is what happens when you run,” Rang the presidents voice from the side of the camera as a loud bang shot through the feed; blood from her shoulder now mingled with the blood that fell from her face, mixing and twisting into hazardous shapes of salt and iron. She cried out as the pain enveloped her body, “You shouldn’t have run, Ms. Klein.” The President spoke, stepping from his side of the camera and into view of the world’s population. “Now you’ll show everyone,” He looked from her and peered into the lens of the camera, into the souls of every living person of the world, “Just what happens when you run from the law.”

He laughed at her whimper; every person viewing the broadcast gasped. Had the government really gained this much power? Was this even legal?! Yes, they had, and yes, it was. It is.

The broadcast of the girls’ torture ran for six and a half days; the first day consisted of the government telling the camera just what they planned on doing to the poor girl; plans that they didn't even stick to. The second day consisted of them shaving off her hair. They found humiliation to be promising, as no person desires to be humiliated in front of anybody, let alone the entirety of the world. Her third day tied to the wooden chair, they began cutting off her extremities; her toes, her fingers, etc. The fourth day, they untied her, and lay her down on a small hospital bed. The most cruel of her torture began that day, as they used Water Boarding, an extremely painful stimulation of drowning, to punish her. Even though she knew she wouldn’t die in that moment, the Water Boarding stimulation makes your body believe that you are drowning and that you will die. No amount of knowledge can reverse the affects it has on a mind and body. And no matter how many times you turn away from the site of it being administered, it will never leave your mind.

The government didn't care in the least that children were being forced to watch it.

On Emmies fifth day, they stripped her of her dignity by taking her clothes from her and leaving her in the room, alone, with the camera on. To say people were shocked and disgusted by what the government was doing to the girl would be an understatement. They were outraged; riots and protests prevented many of the torturers from even leaving their own homes to get to the building where the girl was held, tied up and naked.
