Harry didn't turn up to school the next day.
It was sad, really. Nina really liked to be around him during school because they'd exchange childish looks when they pass each other in the hallway and gossip about their classes during breaks and they just genuinely enjoyed spending time together. In fact, they spent so much time together, most of the students thought they were a married couple (which Nina didn't mind at all).
So she decided to drop him a nice message during break time, asking him if he was okay and updating him on anything interesting - and all was well.
Until he didn't turn up for the rest of the week.
Nina was starting to get seriously worried - he wouldn't answer her texts, he didn't tell the school where he was and, quite frankly, there wasn't a second of the day when she didn't think about him.
Was this normal?
"And how is your dog doing?"
"Fine, dad. He's fine."
There was a pause on the line.
"Nina?"
"Mhmm?"
"What's the matter?"
"Nothing, I'm just tired." She answered, lying upside down on the sofa. "Long day, s'all."
"Hmm."
"What?"
"Is that new?"
Nina frowned. "Is what new?"
"You being a terrible liar - is that new?" He laughed. "Because you were definitely a better liar when you were younger."
Nina scoffed and swung into an upright position. Was she that bad?
"What makes you think I'm lying?" She asked, somewhat offended.
"You seem very closed off today, that's all."
There was really no point in lying anymore, considering she was apparently a bad liar.
"Yeah, well," she began, mentally piecing together a decent sentence that wouldn't sound cheesy. "It's... quite stupid actually."
She talked about Harry to her dad. It was weird at first, he kept making jokes about how he would personally hunt Harry down and, I quote, 'shoot him up the a.sshole'. He didn't actually seem to understand that they weren't technically dating.
Speaking of dating, tomorrow was Saturday. Also known as, the day Harry took Nina out on a 'date'.
But was it a date? I mean, he did ask to take her out.
Nina ended the call straight after her dad asked if they'd kissed yet.

It came to the point where Nina set an alarm for 4am. She felt like this was the only way she could reach him - during his 'thinking time'.
Nina; 4:10am
hey, it's me again. god, you're probably so tired of getting messages by me this week... i'm sort of annoying. but, anyway. im really worried about you. is everything okay?
She sighed sorrowfully and continued.
4:14am
i don't know if you still want to go out with me tomorrow but if you do, then i would love to. if you've changed your mind, then that's cool, too. i wouldn't blame you.
4;16am
idk, maybe im just rambling now. i honestly don't know how you do this all the time, 4am is the hardest time for me i guess.
4:17am
okay. night, harry.

Usually, Nina would laze around on Saturdays.
It meant she could sit in her pyjamas and play with her dog whilst aimlessly watching whatever was on TV. It meant she could draw sketches in between meals and place them around her bedroom wall as a sort of decoration.
But this Saturday wasn't one of those days.
Instead, Nina sat on her bedroom floor with Harry across from her, talking about whatever.
"I'm sorry I couldn't reach you for a week," Harry apologised for the hundredth time that hour. "I had to get Lily to the hospital and it was only when I got there I realised that I left my phone at home."
"Hey, it's okay! Seriously, stop with the sorrying already, it's getting annoying."
He smiled. "Just wanted to make sure you knew that I wasn't ignoring you."
Nina smiled back. "Cool."
She sat with her legs crossed and his legs were spread out in front of him, nice and long. She picked at her nails for a while trying to come up with something to say to him that wouldn't sound so desperate or needy or just plain weird.
"So like," she looked up at him again. "How's Lily doing?"
"She's doing great, yeah." Harry nodded. "She's just twisted her ankle, really. She should be up and moving again in a couple of days."
"Ah, okay. I hope she's okay, I sprained my ankle once when I was like 10 and I thought the world was ending because that meant I couldn't do ice skating practice for two whole weeks."
"You... Ice skate?" Harry raised an eyebrow at her.
"Hmm? Oh, yeah. I was great. Top in my class." She flicked her hair over her shoulder in a diva fashion that made Harry grin stupidly. "I stopped after a while, though."
"Why did you stop?"
"Oh, uh, you know," she winced a little bit. "Didn't really have... time."
"Oh." Harry slowly nodded. He looked unconvinced but didn't push it any further. Instead, he got up onto his feet and adjusted his jeans. Nina began to internally panic. Was it something she said?
"Are you leaving?" She peered up at him, afraid of the answer.
"Yep." Oh.
"Oh, okay."
"I'm taking you with me." He extended his arm to her.
Well, this was new.
******
"Seriously?" Nina attempted to cover her smile up with an uninterested look but failed once he handed her ice skates.
"Seriously." He grabbed his pair and placed his hand on her back, leading her towards the benches. "I wanna see what you can do."
"Can you explain to me why you have a membership here?"
"Ah yes. That is the one thing I can't tell you." Harry winked at her - big mistake. An army of butterflies violently attacked her stomach and caused her to release a very unattractive giggle followed by a snort.
Nina slapped her hands over her mouth in absolute horror.
They only just got there and she's already messed it up.
