My mouth was wide open when finally the one making the huge ass noise appeared in the hallway. Something I have never seen before, not even in textbooks or anything. Something huge and furry, with big golden eyes and long sharp fangs, on it's four feet and growling. A giant, weird looking wolf. I wasn't expecting to see anything like this, not the dagger, not the black clad man and not ever, the giant wolf. A gasp escaped my mouth, and from the distance of their position and mine somehow the man heard me and snapped his head quickly in my direction, momentarily distracted and the wolf used this to its advantage. It lashed out with its mouth and sent the man flying away and hitting a set of lockers.
The man groaned and clutched his stomach but stood up and looked up at me again and I saw recognition. He's here. He blinked at me, but remembered a wolf was about to chop off his head and he quickly grabbed for the dagger that also blew with him and he lunged at the wolf. The wolf tried to bite his left leg and its teeth was damn near but with that position, the man was able to twist around and stab the wolf in its neck. It whimpered and slowly became smaller, until...until it became a human. I tried blinking a couple of times but the image stayed, was I hallucinating?
The man sighed and wiped the dagger in his jeans and kicked the lifeless body, when it stayed limp he suddenly leaned on the wall as if all his energy was released I mean who wouldn't? Try fighting a six feet wolf, see if you can still stand for a day. Idiotically, I tried for the door again but it wouldn't move, it was locked tight. The man stayed in his position but he glanced up at me and realized I couldn't get in, he sighed and limped his way to my direction. I don't know if I should have ran and seek cover, I know I should, but I stayed. I know this man, I know this man for as long as I can remember and after how many years, finally I see him again.
His face became more contrasted, his long dark hair swept upwards and tied to a short bun. His eyes somehow got a little darker, now it looked more indigo than sea blue. A two day old stubble present in his face, and his stupid grin was plastered on his face. Obviously, this is River Goodwell. He never walks a day in the light without his stupid grin.
"Hey, little brother" he reached back into his leather jacket and a pulled out the same dagger he used earlier. Now that he's only a couple of feet away, I can see the dagger more clearly. It was about two feet long, it's handle was ebony black with drawings carved into it and on every outline of the drawing, there's a shining blue light around it. River noticed me looking at it and he chuckled softly, "Some things changed overtime, but not your curiosity" he shook his head and slammed the dagger in the lock, and it flew open.
He smiled even brighter, "Hey there!" I rolled my eyes but I was still smiling. Too long, it has been too long since I saw him. Since I saw all of my brothers together, actually. I somehow forgot about the giant wolf and the human body so I glanced behind him but all I can see an empty hallway. He turned around as well, and excitedly said to me "Beautiful, isn't it? Brackas blood, kills any magical creature in an instant and turns them to dust" He flashed me the dagger and I felt uneasy imagining that the shining blue liquid was actually blood...of something.
"Well, you've gone quiet, didn't you? Don't be nervous, I won't stab you with this thing. Now, Give your brother a hug! It's been what, three years?" He lunged at me, but not in the way he did with the wolf, instead of trying to strike my heart with his dagger he gave me a huge back cracking hug. Just three years ago, I was roughly below his shoulder but now I almost reached his 6'2 height. River noticed this and released a small whimper, "Oh, god. I miss you, brother. Look how you've grown!"
But I was still speechless, what am I supposed to say? 'You too! Oh look, you've managed to kill a giant killing machine as well. Teach me how to do it? Like how every normal brother would teach his brother to catch a ball, but instead of a ball let's kill giant monsters! Yay?' I was still in a shocked state, wondering if I'm still in that godforsaken dream, and I'm about to wake up to a giant ass headache, I pray not.
Then a loud piercing howl came from somewhere inside the building and River switched from goofy older brother to an assassin in a flash I didn't have the time to blink. He grabbed my hand and pulled me along to the parking lot where I saw the only car beside mine, and I felt stupid for not seeing that when I arrived earlier. It was a black Audie and River opened the doors and pushed me inside, he then went around to the back and opened the trunk, he pulled out a long, sheathed sword, it's handle also shining but it's not blue anymore, it's a blazing yellow color. I didn't want to know what it is, and what it does.
He carried it with him inside to the driver's seat and threw it the back. Quickly, he started the engine and drove away. Tires protesting in the gravel, it squealed as he took a sharp turn and away from the school. I started to relax but I noticed a figure running with us along to the right. About three big giant wolves was catching up to us. And I uttered the first word since I saw River, "Faster!" I almost had a heart attack, the opponents was advantaging fast. They were pretty good runners, actually. But my crazy old brother only grinned wider as he pressed the gas and the car moved faster. I kept keeping glances at the sword behind me and also to the wolves that's almost catching up to us, thinking if maybe we needed to use it this time.
Our car lurched upwards as a new weight rested on top of us, I glanced up and saw that the roof of the car has been dented by a giant foot. River beside me clicked his tongue and caressed his hand on the dashboard "I'm sorry, Cassandra. I will avenge you" He then turned to me, "Take the wheel. I'm going to kick some furball's ass" I couldn't speak so I just followed what he said and took over while he went back and grabbed the sword, unsheathed it and kissed it's edges for a second before plunging it up in the roof. A loud whimper cried and the weight finally pulled off and beside us, I saw a giant wolf disintegrating.
"Yellow. Rare Ice Pecker's blood, when pierced it enters the victim's bloodstreams and burns it like a motherfucker, then slowly the whole body itself. A perfect collection!" Suddenly, I was very afraid about my brother. But I had no time to tell him about what I thought because another wolf attacked the side and it broke the glass, somewhere he managed to stick to the side and was trying to avoid getting hit by River and trying to get a bite from him at the same time. River was barely getting a hit when another one lunged from the back. At the same time, I was trying to focus on the road and prevent us from getting cartwheeled to death.
The snarling wolf on our left managed to get the side door open and it grabbed for the seat and River was now sticking on the other side, he threw the wolf a burger that he somehow got a hold of in the backseat. The paper in the burger temporarily blinded the wolf as it hit it's eyes and he took the moment to stab it in the foot and the wolf let go and whimpered as it hit the ground in full speed. Now one more to go. "Oh hello, I didn't see you there" He joked to the wolf at the back and it growled and snapped at him. "Ooh, Feisty"
The wolf found the timing to lift up and it entered the small car and with it's height it put a whole in the roof and managed to fit in the tight space. It was now on top of River, it bit the handle of the River's sword and threw it out of the window and snapped at River's face. River took a kick at the wolf's stomach and punched it in the guts. He used the remaining seat as a lever to pull himself down and suddenly he was now behind the wolf and then he grabbed the blue dagger from a while ago and stabbed it in it's hind legs. A small whimper released out from the wolf and it became smaller, until a groaning naked human body laid across us.
But something was making River nervous, maybe because the wolf (now human) was still breathing and bleeding spuriously on the carpeted floor, or that the human was actually a girl.
