At first it she had to do it
It was the only way
The only way she could survive
In this unruly world
She carved her masks flawlessly
She built her walls high
Her lies she perfected
And made her emotions numb
By day she'd often fake a smile and force her laugh
Push herself past her limits
She gave up her happiness
Just to make them proud
So many things in her life was fake
But she still remembered how to be real
Because every night she'd take it all off
Letting go of the burdens she held
And every night she made a promise
To never lose herself
As the years past by the effects begin to show
Her happiness begun to fade
Her smile was no longer genuine
Her laugh cut short
Eyes that once sparkled
Now dull and numb
Life washed away
By the tiredness that came pouring in
Looking back she realizes
Her mistake
She shouldn't have played the game
For this is a game she cannot win
She should have spend a little more time
To think about herself
About her happiness
She now realizes that there is another way
A much better way
Unfortunately she's in too deep
Coming back up will take some time
