The plane had just made its final landing in Northern California, there was no turning back now. The great unknown loomed in front of Cassidy like a snarling beast, threatening to swallow her whole. They hadn't even left the airport yet and she already knew she hated the new town. And as they got into the van parked by the curb and watched the town fly through the windows, she was detesting it more and more. She glanced over at her parents who seemed ecstatic to be seeing the new place where they would be living, over 2,000 miles away from their hometown. Sometimes, she just couldn't understand how they could be so happy at times like this, it was unbelievable.
Cassidy let out a sigh, "Hey, cheer up kid," her father said, "just wait 'til you see the house!"
"Great," Cass replied, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "I can't wait. A cool new house obviously makes everything better!" Her parents returned her comment with a sigh and returned to looking at the road.
Just then, they turned a corner and the biggest house Cassie had ever seen loomed up in front of them. She guessed that because her father got that extra bonus to move, they could afford a much bigger house. "Wow!"exclaimed Cassie, but realizing she was showing excitement, quickly added,"This doesn't change my opinion of this place though."
Her parents let out a small chuckle,"Well, we thought that you at least deserved a nice house to live in while we're here. " Cassie was speechless as she examined her new home.
"Is this really where we are going to live?"asked Cassie.
"Yes," her parents replied," your new high school is right down the road too." No, Cassie did not want to be the girl who lived across the street from school. It didn't matter how big the house was, she was not happy about this. But she looked in both directions and didn't see anything so she figured that that was good enough. No one should be able to see her house from the school. Cassie wouldn't know what to do with herself if everyone knew she lived in the blue house across the road from the high school, it would be so embarrassing!
The inside of her new home was massive, it had floor to celing windows giving a perfect view of the lake. She could see a small dock at the end of a path that led to the lake. The bedrooms were upstairs, they were very well designed and made use of the space well. Cassie could already imagine how she was going to decorate it, her bed would go on the left wall, her dresser on the right, and her desk and chair infront of the window. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad. No! You are supposed to dislike everything about this move! Cassie scolded herself. She soon did remember another reason to hate this move. She had to go to school in two days.
