Mockingjay

Chapter 2

The rights to the characters do not belong to me! They belong the Suzanne Collins; this is a fanfiction of her story Mockingjay.

Once they throw me into my cell, I go over to the bed chained to the wall and lie down. This is the second interview in a few days. I think that time is such an odd thing. How do you measure it when some moments go so fast and some so slow? When you don't see the sun or the moon or a clock, you never know what the time is. It could be days since we left the arena. It could also be months. There is no telling how long we were out.

"Katniss?" Johanna asks me from the bars in between her cell and mine. I look at her. They shaved her head when the came in for a torture yesterday, so she is now bald. I will never get used to this.

"Johanna," is all I respond. Hopefully, she will see I am not in the mood. But she is Johanna, so she proceeds anyway.

"What did they have you say this time?" I try to forget it. They only have Peeta, and I talk, never the others. For some reason, we are always singled out, and I don't have a good feeling about it. I take a deep breath.

"That we are against the violence, the rebels should stop. We are with the Capital. The stuff they hope will kill the rebellion." If they are making us promote no violence and then have a Hunger Games, people will rebel even more. Since that is what I want, I will not bother to mention it. District 13 needs to hurry up if they are going to save us.

"Bullshit!" Johanna calls on the matter. Oh, Johanna. "I'll put down my weapons when they put down theirs!"

I glance at the door to the outside hoping no guard is standing there. Lucky for Johanna, none are at this second. "Shut up. No one is putting down their weapons, and we know it."

Enobaria never really spends much time down here. She tells us that she sleeps in a guest room upstairs. However, I am not so sure I believe that. I am guessing she is a prostitute. Since she is from District 2, she may be telling the truth, but it just doesn't match why she's in a jail cell now.

"People die to fight," Annie adds as if she is in a daze. Enobaria ignores it; Joanna is a different story.

"People die fighting for what's right," Johanna adds fiercely.

"I am sick of damn politics." Peeta finally gives his input. Truthfully so am I. Snow has us talking about what he wants everyone to believe, which is trying to persuade them into peace. Then Joanna yells about what she thinks nonstop. She pretty much hates the Capitol, that is the only politics that she concerns her self with.

Occasionally someone mentions District 13 and if they'll rescue us. Through the guards, there are whispers of Finnick sometimes, to which Annie cries and whippers at the sound of his very name. I am not sure how close they were, but I am going to assume they were extremely close. From the guards, it seems Finnick is supporting the rebellion, which I am not against.

Maybe they will rescue us soon, he wouldn't forget about Annie, would he?

"Well, I'm sick of being in this cell Mellark," Johanna responds to Peeta. Crap, this is only going to go downhill.

"I am sick of pretty much everything." Peeta remarks. I am so worried about this. Not just being locked in a dungeon with president Snow in charge, but about Peeta. Peeta was so optimistic, always hoping for the best, trusting people to do right that hasn't been me from as far back as I can recall. Peeta was so good, but being locked in this dungeon is changing him. The games, of course, changed him, but two games and this is just the extra icing, frosting, and candles to top it.

Not to mention they play it off as me having a miscarriage. I am certain I haven't though, the baby kicks constantly. Occasionally on stage, the baby decides to kick, and it always shocks me. 13 better rescue us because my baby will not be in the hands of Snow. If they don't rescue us, would they even take me to a doctor or someone who's delivered before? No, they would probably kill it on the spot. Or would they use an innocent child as leverage against me?
