Ashlyn's POV

Don't you just love Saturdays? No school, sleeping in, hanging out with friends. Just an all around lazy day. I wasn't spending today being lazy though, I was going out with my boyfriend, Nate. We were finally going to go see Green Lantern. I woke and took my time in the shower. After, I got out, I heard the doorbell ring. I was the only one home so I went to answer it, dressed of course.

"Alli, Hey!" I said as I gave her a hug. She was here to help me get ready. Nate would be here around two.

"Hey Ash! You ready to get all dolled up?" She was always the one I went to for fashion advice. We headed up to my closet. "Was the something you really wanted to wear?"

"Ummmm, I was thinking this?" I pulled out a simple dress out of my closet. Yeah I was a dress kind of girl. "It's plain, so I figured you could help me do something with it. You know how bad I am at putting outfits together." She laughed.

"I don't mind helping." She said smiling.

I was always so jealous of this girl. In a good. She's always been so pretty. She has that natural beauty that I wish I had. I wish I could pretty without wearing makeup. I've always felt this way, and I've been good at hiding it.

It was five till two and Alli headed next door to her house. After she left, I slipped on the shoes we picked out. We decided to keep it causal. Its just a plain white dress, pink flats and a pink floral clutch. I could be such a girly girl. I heard a honk outside and headed to the door. Nate never rang the doorbell, it was just something I had to get used too.

I walked outside to see Nate car, and to see Cody and his little brother playing basketball. I smiled and waved after Cody had already done so, and then got in Nates car. Nate started driving, and there was and awkward silence for about 10 minutes.

"You wanna go see the movie, or ditch me for Cody again?"

"Nate, I'm sorry about last night. I didn't realize he had come in. I didn't want to be rude to him and his family, I-"

"And, ditching a date with your boyfriend isn't rude?"  He said not looking at me once.

"What has gotten in to you?"

"I'm just sick of being second best.." He got out of the car. "Let's just go see the movie."

---10 mins after the movie---

"Okay, can you stop being so silent?" I said as we got in the car. "I thought you understood?"

"Well, what was I gonna say? 'No, I don't want you going'. I want to be put before him."

"I-I can't do that. You both mean alot to me. You're my boyfriend and Cody's my best friend....and I'm sorry Nate, but friends come first; especially when I don't get to see them that much." He looked at me with a puzzled look on his face, I could feel my eyes begin to water.

"Whatever, Ashlyn."

"Nate, if this is what this night is going to be like, forget dinner and just take me home."

"No problem." He said in a completely heartless tone.

I looked at the time and realized it was almost five. It seemed like time passed so slow on the way to my house. The car was filled with nothing but silence. By the time I got home I was ready to jump out of the car, I had my hand on the car handle when Nate tried to kiss my check. I pulled away and nodded my head, and got out of the car. A tear fell down my cheek as he drove away. I wiped it off my face only to see Cody skateboarding next door, with a concerned look on his face. I faked a smile to him, and walked inside my lonely house (both my parents were working today).

I went up the stairs to my room and quickly changed into sweats, put my hair in a ponytail, and washed off my makeup. I sighed, hearing my phone beep, dreading a text from Nate.

From: Cody

You can't fake a smile to me, Ash. Come over.
