"What do you think?"
I turned around and took in the outfit my best friend wore. A light blue long sleeved jumpsuit that cut off half way up her thighs complemented Aleisha's thick blonde hair and tanned skin.
She looked down at her outfit. "Do you think it's too much?"
"Nope," I say shaking my head. "You'll definitely stand out though."
"Good."
I look up at her curiously. "Is there anyone you're trying to impress?"
"What? No! I just want to look nice." The blush in her cheeks told me that what she just said was a big fat lie. "Can't a girl want to put an effort in her appearance every now and again?"
I looked at her to tell her I wasn't buying it, but I decide to let it go. "Sure Leish. Whatever you say."
I take my hot pink high waisted skirt off the hanger and decide to pair it with my white lace crop top. Aleisha heated my hair straightener while I changed.
I take my hair out of the high pony its currently in. My chestnut hair curls down my back while I ruffle it to get rid of the kink at the top. Deciding to leave it out, I get started on my makeup.
Twenty minutes later, Aleisha and I are ready to go. I grab my light denim jacket on my way out and we walk to the bus stop.

When we arrive, there's a crowd of about a hundred people. There is a couple of faces that I recognise, but most of these people are strangers. I wonder who else is playing tonight.
"Yo Emily!" I turn to see who called my name, and smile as I see Ashton making his way towards me. "Glad you could make it."
"Yeah. You nervous?"
"No way." He chuckled. "Well, maybe a little. But I'm just the drummer."
"Hey you're just as important as the other guys Ash."
"Anyway I gotta bounce, I think we're on in about fifteen. But I'll see you after 'kay?"
"Sure." I smile at him. "Break a leg!" I call after him as he disappears into the sea of people.
A hand wraps my arm. "Emily! We gotta go now if we want good seats."
Aleisha drags me towards the stage, and we manage to get seats in the front. About five minutes later, the first band comes out. The next two bands were a blur, when four boys step out onto the stage. They take their positions, Luke in the front and centre, Calum to his left and Michael at his right and Ash on the drums behind them. The girl next to me pointed at Luke and whispered something to her friend, who nodded and sighed. I bit my lip and watched as the lanky lead singer fixed his microphone.
"Hey guys, we're Five Seconds of Summer. Uh, this first song we're gonna play for you is an original, called 'Try Hard'. Um, hope you enjoy.' Luke looks so confident on stage as he waits for Ashton to count them in. I'm mesmerised by his fingers as they deftly strum the guitar, but it's nothing compared to when he opened his mouth.
She dropping outta school 'cause she don't need the grades.
The colours in her hair don't seem to fade.
I get dressed up when I go out, but she gets dressed down.
I knew he was good when I heard them rehearsing from my house, but hearing him live and this close was amazing. They were truly talented. I was dancing along to their song until Luke looked my way.
But now, who knew?
That she's in the crowd of my show
Nothing to lose,
She's standing right in the front row
The perfect view,
She came along on her own,
And there's something that you should you know
As he sang this verse he looked at me. Or rather my left shoulder. Aleisha.
I looked over at her. And she was looking right back at him.
I swear I could hear my heart break in that moment. I know it's not right for me to feel this way. He's not mine, and neither of them knew my true feelings for Luke. But how could they? I did my very best to not make it obvious. I thought it was safer that way. I guess I should have realised I was doomed either way.

I was numb the rest of the night, not absorbing anything around me. All I wanted to do was go home and curl in a ball and cry. But I knew I was being stupid. He looked at her. He could have just as easily looked at anyone. It doesn't mean anything. And of course she was was looking at him, I mean he was in the middle of the stage.
That's it, I thought to myself. You're being stupid.
With my mind at a slight ease, I pulled out my phone. Unlocking my screen, I could see the time was 10:40pm. I suppose I should find Aleisha so we don't miss the bus and have to walk home.
There were people everywhere, and I couldn't see her blonde head anywhere. I did however, see an unruly mess of brown curls that belonged to Ashton. He was talking to a couple of girls when I reached him. I sidled up beside him and listened in to their conversation. He was telling them how he got into drumming. I listened while still keeping my eyes out for Aleisha. I saw movement in the corner of my eye, and I don't know why it stood out so much to me since there were people everywhere.
I saw him before I saw her.
But what I saw shattered my heart into pieces.
