Sorry for all the author's notes (*ahem* obstacles) that were before this.
After making our dinner, we walked back to our room as quickly and inconspicuously as possible.
It went something like this.
Leo ran the entire way, and a rich-looking couple looked at him down their nose.
Frank walked back, nervously fiddling with his dinner.
I walked side by side with Percy, as we were acting that the food that we just made was most definitely not from the breakfast bar.
Jason walked quickly, the way one walks in an airport.
I didn't realize how hungry i was, until i started to eat.
When we were finished, Percy picks up a pamphlet and tries to figure out the map on the back.
And we pile into the truck.
The shopping center was huge. There were 2 stories, 5 wings (north, south, east, west, and center). Each wing had its own fountain, (link in the comments) with about 15 stores per section, that was not including the vendor booths.
"Where to start?" Leo asks, staring into the fountain in the west wing.
I walk over to a map of the shopping center, everyone except Leo, who was still entranced, follows me.
"Kimmy's Prom Store," I press my finger against the warm, lighted box.
"I want to buy Hazel something," Frank adds meekly, "before we try on the dresses."
"Same for Pipes"
"And Annabeth."
"Geez what do i get Calypso? You should get something for Nico, when he gets back. Like a,' welcome-back-from-the-Underworld-don't-ever leave-me-again' kind of gift." Leo says, trying to cheer me up.
It doesn't.
Leo runs off to Pier 1, muttering something about a new dining table.
Percy heads over to the Dollar Store. He sure knows how to win a woman over, I think.
Frank just wanders around aimlessly, looking for something.
Then I see it.
A dog tag engraving machine. I walk towards it, insert $5 and follow the instructions. And I create my gift to Nico.
One half of the dog tag is daytime, the other, night.
I turn it over in my fingers. Engraved on the smooth metal it says,
You are my sunshine. Never leave me again. Forever yours, Will.
Now i need a box. I go to the jewelry store.
At the counter is a snobby-looking old man who is very closely examining what appears to be nothing but his hands. As i get closer, i realize its a ring.
"Hi, I'm looking for a-"
"Ring?" the old man interrupts.
"Uh, no, actually its-"
"Oh, you're looking for a necklace or bracelet, right?"
"No I need-"
"Diamond are a girl's best frien-"
"A box" I blurt out. "I need... a box"
"Right..." the old man (his nameplate says his name is Jeremy) seems puzzled as to why i would need, or want, a box. "What do you want to put in the box?"
"This." I thrust my fist forward, then open my palm, revealing the tag.
"I see..." Jeremy bends down underneath the counter bringing back, not a box, but a 4-foot long javelin.
I would fight him, except for one little problem.
I don't have my sword or bow and arrows with me.
Love you all,
Jax
