Daniela’s POV

I woke up with a start.  I was sitting up straight I my bed and breathing heavily; it must have been another car crash nightmare. As I willed myself to fall back to sleep, the dream stared to come back to me.  It wasn’t one of my normal dreams; this one was much different and not so much a nightmare.

It started with my family and I going to the movies.  Strangely, my little sister was there and very much alive. I offered to buy snacks, so my mom, dad, and sister headed into the theater. As I waited in line for our treats, I noticed the guy behind me had the most beautiful green eyes I had ever seen.  They were so green and striking that they should have been a whole new color altogether.

“What are you looking at love?” he asked with a slight smile.  I hadn’t realized I had been staring, but apparently I had.

“Oh, I’m sorry, your eyes, they’re just very green,” I said blushing.

“You look pretty when you blush,” he said out of nowhere.  We talked as we waited in line until it was my turn to pay.

“It’s on me,” the man behind me said.

“Oh you don’t have to do that,” I protested.

“Oh yes I do,” he said chuckling, “and one more thing,” he reached over and grabbed a box of milk duds, “put it in your popcorn it’s the best.” I could feel my heart pounding.  His eyes were twinkling and there were butterflies in my stomach.

“Thanks,” I said in a whisper, because that’s all the sound I could muster.

I had an instant headache as the dream came back to me.  My heart was racing.  It was a good dream; in fact, I could still feel the butterflies in my stomach.  The bad part was that the man in my dream was Pj. No doubt about it. There were no other eyes like those on earth.  This can't be happening I muttered to myself.  Pj was nice, I mean he seemed nice, but he had killed my sister, and that is something I could never forgive.

I felt like I was falling down an endless tunnel; a tunnel full of misery and confusion and neglect.  Or maybe I was just falling in love.  Love is a good thing, unless it’s with someone where love is impossible, like Pj.

I was awoken again by a ring of the doorbell.  I glanced at the clock, 6:57, another day begins.  I just wanted to close my eyes and forget everything.  I was muddled and lonely, and truthfully did not want to face another day. I jumped up and ran to the door.

“One second!” I hollered as I threw on some sweats. When I opened the door I was confronted with the last person I wanted to see. The person I had seen too much of already, in my dreams.

“Hey Dani, I brought your phone,” Pj said, “Sorry to bother you so early.”

“Oh thanks, and don’t worry about it,” I said with a fake smile. I think Pj could sense it was not a good time to stay and chat.

“I better be going now,” he said as he turned to leave, “Bye.”

I waved goodbye and shut the door. I looked in the mirror and saw that the dark circles under my eyes looked like charcoal. I needed coffee…badly. I grabbed my jacket and headed out the door, Starbucks time.

It only took a few minutes before I was in the line at Starbucks.  Walking here was like being on autopilot because it was a frequent stop of mine.  I knew all of the workers, and they all knew me, and my order.  I waited for a while until finally it was my turn to order.

“Hello, how can I help you?” I looked up, the voice was unfamiliar, but strangely I felt like I knew it.  My gaze was met with a tall brunette with man with brown eyes. He was attractive, but plain, just normal.

“Oh hello, you must be new working here,” I said with a smile.

“Yes,” he said.  There was something strange about him but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

“Well, my name is Dan-“

“Daniela, I know,” he cut me off.

“Um, how did you know that?” I asked startled.

“Are you really asking that my dear?” he questioned with a smirk.

“Yes, How did you know my name,” I started to raise my voice.

“You listen to me, and you listen good,” he said starring into my eyes. “You get away from her. You take your whole family, well what’s left of it, and get away from her because she is mine.” What was he talking about!

“What do you mean what’s left of it?” If he was talking about my sister’s death I was going to punch him.

“Well your sisters dead,” he said plainly.

“How do you know all this? Who are you?” I growled. I was in way over my head. I was a small 21 year old girl getting in a fight with some creepy, older, bigger, stronger, man that somehow knew a lot about me.

“You’ve never heard of me?” he looked slightly hurt, “The names Anthony Liguori, and I suggest you listen to what I told you or you will be sorry.”

I considered getting upset with him but then I remembered the situation, and quickly got out of line.  I hastily walked out the door and down the sidewalk back to my house. My heart was racing and I could barely breathe. Phew…that was really weird.  As I continued walking, I noticed someone walking at the exact same speed as me on the sidewalk parallel to the one I was on. Oh fuck, it’s him. I glanced at him out of the corner of my eye.  What am I going to do. I’m going to get killed…I’m going to get raped…what do I do…think…what do I do. My mind was exploding with unhelpful thoughts. Just as the panic started to kick in I saw a familiar face in a car drive by, it was Chris. Great…there’s help. I quickly opened my phone and noticed the open contact. Strange it was Chris, I didn’t remember putting his number in my phone. I called it anyways. Please pick up…please.

“Hello?” Chris answered.

“Hi Chris, it’s Daniela, I just saw you drive by and I need help. Someone is following me and I don’t know what to do.”

“What does he look like?” he questioned.

“Well he’s, um, I don’t know how to describe him…Plain,” I responded without much luck.

“Shit,” I heard Chris say under his breath, “Did he say his name was Anthony Ligouri by any chance?”

“Yes how did you know?” I was surprised.

“Long story, Daniela keep walking at a normal pace understand,” he said in a firm and strict tone, “Do not look right at him, but keep an watch on him out of the corner of your eye. Stay on the phone with me and act like you are having a casual conversation. Do not run or look scared. Do not make any turns and I will meet you at the next corner.”

“Okay” I said. I babbled on, on the phone, as I walked forward looking down. I glanced at Anthony across the street; he was keeping directly across from me. He had a grin on his face that looked like he was about to win something. I was shaking so much that I almost dropped the phone. I made it to the next corner just as a silver Lexus pulled up. Anthony turned the corner walking straight towards me. As he saw the car his expression changed from victory to horror. He started running towards it just as I made it safely into Chris’ car. Chris locked the doors and we sped away leaving Mr. Ligouri in the dust.
