Nine

•Emma's POV•

For the rest of the weekend, I stayed holed up in my apartment. I couldn't risk seeing Neal, or even worse, Hook. They both deserved a huge apology and explanation. But I couldn't do that until I talked to Henry.

So when Regina came by to drop off Henry, I gave him a big hug and said, "I've missed you so much!"

"It's only been two days, Mom," he reminded me.

"I know, but we have a lot to catch up on. Let's go for a drive."

"Okay."

We went out to the Bug and drove off. Not to anywhere in particular, just around town.

"So, tell me about your weekend," I began.

"Me and Regina played games and went to the park. Not much," he told me. "How was your date with Dad?"

Oh, why did he have to call him 'Dad'? It would've been easier if he'd just called him Neal.

"Uh, it was okay. Actually, that's what I needed to talk to you about."

"What happened?"

"Nothing bad," I assured him. "I just realized that I might have feelings for someone else."

"Oh. Who?"

"Hook."

"I knew it!"

I laughed. "You knew it, huh? Well how do you feel about that?"

"I want you to be happy, Mom."

"Thanks, kid. But what do you think I should do?"

"Well you can't have both guys. So you have to choose one. Preferably the one you like."

"I knew you would say that."

"Then why did you ask?"

I looked at him and smiled. "I don't know. I just thought you'd want me to be with Neal. So we could be a family again."

"We are a family, Mom. Along with Mary-Margaret and David and Regina and Mr. Gold. But my dad left you. And Hook didn't."

He had a point. Neal had left me, pregnant and alone at 18. But Hook had stuck by my side since we'd met.

"Are you mad at him, Henry?"

"No. Are you?"

"No. But he really wants to get back together. I don't want to be rude."

"You're not being rude, Mom. You're just doing what's best for you. You're giving yourself your best chance. Like you always do with me."

"How did I get so lucky to have a son like you?"

"I don't know," he said, and we laughed.
