Chapter 13: What Do You Mean?

5 months.

5 months have passed since I last saw him.

Zayn and Perrie got married a month after they got engaged. I was there to witness everything and it still hasn't been a year since they got married. I was already hearing rumors everywhere.

They've broken up.

It was rumored that the two were seen arguing at a restaurant.

Perrie was using Zayn.

Perrie was the reason why Zayn left One Direction.

To be honest after Zayn and Perrie's wedding I haven't talked to any of them. They went to their honeymoon just a few days after their wedding and after a month. The two were busy with their respective music careers. There was no time.

And the biggest shock of all was 3 months ago, Zayn left One Direction. I haven't heard from any of them and I guess we were all just busy.

Everything's been so hectic lately. My job as a designer and projects were coming up with my modeling career. It's all a lot to take actually. I feel a tad bit bad for not trying to contact Zayn after knowing the news of his departure to the group but my life was just so busy. I guess this is part of being an adult.

I don't know where to start but the biggest one of all this month is Vogue. My designs were chosen by Vogue to be featured in their magazine and as a designer it was such a huge honor to be included in Vogue.

"You're going to be dealing with a lot of celebrities Miss Khan. Males and Females. Particularly, Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and the newest Zayn Malik. These are the people who will be wearing your clothes and we expect the best." One of the editors in Vogue tells me as we held our meeting inside my office.

Hearing Zayn's name was a surprise but this feels awfully familiar. Just like what happened a few months ago. Our work has brought us to meet again.

"We expect to see you at our office to officially meet with the models." She says once more before deciding to leave me.

Days passed and here I am now inside Vogue's office and apparently we were going to have a shoot just to test the clothes on the models. I was already busy preparing and organizing the clothes with my secretary and staff when a voice interrupted us.

"Miss Khan, the models are about to be here." One of the crew informs us and we all stop and take our seats on the chairs prepared.

One by one they entered. First was Kendall Jenner who looked so tall probably an inch taller than me. She was smiling as we exchanged kisses from cheek to cheek.

"I'm a huge fan." She smiles and I thank her in return.

"So am I." Gigi Hadid follows and we do the same gesture.

"It's great to see you again, Mia." Justin Bieber says and kisses me on the cheek before hugging me.

"It's great to see you to Justin." I reply.

Last was Zayn who looked a tad bit shy but it quickly fades as he sees me smiling at him.

"It's been awhile. Good to see you." I say warmly and hug him.

"Yeah, it's nice to see you too." He smiles and hugs me back. I was the first to pull away because everyone was already settled and seated.

"First and foremost is good to see you all here. We just need to go on with a few things like the theme and everything." The editor in chief of Vogue starts off and we nod our heads to listen.

Apparently there was going to be two themes. One for each pair. Justin was paired with Kendall and the themes was summer romance. In Zayn and Gigi it was more of like Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet with a modern twist in it.

I was the one responsible to choose the clothes which I already prepared. With Gigi and Kendall there was no problem since they fit the clothes. As for Zayn and Justin, we had to test more on what would look better on them.

"So, I hear you've been doing so well, Mia. I'm happy for you." Justin starts the conversation as I fix his summer wear.

"Yeah, thank you, it's been pretty hectic and I can say the same to you. I watch the news, how many awards have you bagged?" I ask proud of him and what he's achieved.

"Thanks, it's just you know, same thing. Busy with the upcoming tour and I've got a new song coming up so I'm preparing for that." He answers just as I finish organizing his clothes.

"There all done." I say and pat his shoulder as I urge him to go to the shoot where Kendall already was.

"Hey." I hear a voice behind me and I turn to see Zayn's face looking at me skeptically.

"Hi, what's wrong? Do you need some arrangements with your clothes?" I ask him and he shakes his head.

"No, that's not it. I just wanted to talk to you about something." He says meeting my gaze.

"Yeah. Sure what is it?" Still not moving from where I was standing.

"In private. Can we talk in private?" He adds and I nod my head in understanding.

"So, what's wrong? Did something happen?" I ask worriedly when we found ourselves inside one of the offices.

"I just wanted to apologize. I'm sorry if I haven't had the time to call or check up on you. I was just so busy with everything and had little time, you know? My life's turned to circles." He says attempting to joke but I can hear the sadness in his tone.

"I know right. Everyone's been talking about it. How've you been?" I ask choosing not to say anymore of the rumors that I've heard.

"Yeah, okay I guess? There's just too much goin on. I don't know what to do. With Perrie and everything. I feel like I'm about to lose. The music is probably the only thing that's keeping me sane right now." He finally speaks.

"Don't say that. We're all here for you. I'm here for you. Perrie's here for you. You can count on that." I try and comfort him.

"That's the thing Mia, I don't know if Perrie is actually there for me, you know?" He answers almost in a whisper. His voice broken and his expression defeated.

"What do you mean? You don't know?" I ask unsure of what else to say.

All these thoughts about those rumors kept coming into my head. Were they true? What had happened these past 5 months to Zayn?
