Luke
(12 years old)Well, his day sucked. He was chased out of the motel room with only a cereal bar, expected to return only at evening or better, in the middle of the night. His mother had another client to entertain in that room.
Disgusting.
Luke just could not help but to feel that way. His father abandoned him and his mother when he was just six, when he barely knew anything. Luke knew that to make sure they get enough money to live another day, his mother had to sell her body and entertain clients. He was grateful for her, but he couldn't feel any less disgusted.
As Luke walked on, his mind slowly drifted away in his thoughts, he ended up in a forest. A darn forest.
Well, there goes my entire day, I guess.
He could use up his time by trying to find the way out. Good thing that he just arrived at this town a week ago, because of his mother's 'job'.
Darn it.
He walked on, trudging through the forest, before giving up for a while and resting below a tree, and he took out his only cereal bar and started munching on it.
He suddenly heard the sound of a twig breaking from the bushes behind him.
"Hello?" He started to get wary. What if it was an animal.
"...H-Hello." Luke made a small sigh of relief when he heard a voice instead of a growl. It was clearly a girl behind the bushes. He wanted to see her face, but she already sounded shy and scared, almost.
"Who are you?" Luke was still wary of her though, because anyone can be dangerous.
"...I am Cassandra, b-but you can call me Cassie or Cas," she still sounded nervous, and it was as if it is her first time introducing herself, "And this is the back of my house."
"Oh... I thought no one was here." Luke relaxed and was glad that he was near a house. That means that he didn't wandered that deep into the forest.
"But hello there, Cassie."
"Who are you?" Cassie asked. She seemed to be slowly getting rid of her shyness.
"Luke."
"Nice to meet you Luke."
"You too, Cas."
"Hey, so why were you here?" she asked.
It would be so embarrassing to say that I got lost... My pride would be lost.
"I like my alone time." Luke replied and he felt stupid saying that. What if Cassie decides to leave him there and then after he says that. And being alone was the worst feeling to him, no kidding.
"You... don't, do you?" Cassie said.
How did she-
The silence continued for some time and she hesitantly added some words, "You don't have to answer, Luke."
He sighed at how perceptive Cassie is. Is it a girl's thing?
"I don't like being alone. But I have to endure it."
He thought he heard a sigh. "I hate being alone too."
Well, to be friends wouldn't be so bad, especially when Cassie was a nice person, he could tell.
"So... Uh, wanna be friends with me?" Luke reached out his hand into the bushes, thinking that he might regret this choice that he made.
"...Okay."
