I couldn't see anything. Something pulled at my hair, and I nearly fell on my backside but I roughly pushed off whatever that was pulling me.
I blindly followed Mrs. Knightley's voice. It was my guide, and as I pushed through the kneeling and standing people, I kept thinking, Get to Mrs. Knightley. Get to Mrs. Knightley. Get to-
Something pushed me on my back and I lost my balance; reaching out for something to grab. I found the floor, and when I looked up, I saw most horrendous sight I probably will ever see in my life.
Bleeding profusely in some places on his body, Greg Hudson, the hot popular jock of my school, moaned at me. His lips were torn and bloody. His teeth had flesh stuck in between them and the smell of his breath was putrid! I gagged, disgusted beyond means.
"Rrr!" Greg growled, suddenly lurching forward.
I yelped, and my left hand instinctively grabbed around his neck, holding him at bay. I hurriedly looked around, looking for something to-I don't know, stop him?-and I saw a fork.
Knowing I would probably go to jail for this, my right hand scrambled for the fork, and quickly moved to stab the fork into his neck.
To my surprise (because I should have hit an artery), Greg didn't scream in pain or drop dead. Instead, he seemed to get more excited and his hands fought to move my left hand.
"Shit!" I muttered, and struggled to get the fork out of his throat. When it was finally out, I quickly stabbed his eyes, and was on my way stabbing his skull when I noticed that he'd gone still.
He wasn't moving anymore.
"Ava? Ava! Ava!" Mrs. Knightley's voice made me move, and I pushed Greg's body off mine.
For a moment, I had lost my bearings and I ran the moment I saw Mrs. Knightley.
"Oh, God! I thought you'd gone down!" she cried as she caught me in her arms.
"I-I did," I stuttered.
"Honey, I've got Ava Johnson here." Mrs. Knightley's worried blue eyes searched me, and the tightness of her face relaxed the moment she saw that I was unharmed.
A handsome blond man appeared behind Mrs. Knightley with a baby in his arms.
"Come on-we gotta go," Mrs. Knightley said authoritatively, taking the baby, and turned to leave.
I suddenly thought of my parents. "But what about my parents?"
She paused, and then started to say something, but Mr. Knightley interrupted her.
"Either they make it out, or they don't."

In front of the Pioneer High School, the street, Pioneer Ave was unremarkable. A soybean field stood across the high school. Since we escaped from the back of the gym, we were at the football stadium.
"We need to get to the soybean field," Mrs. Knightley said.
"What about our car?" Mr. Knightley asked.
"Well, we could head to our home and transfer everything we need to survive to Yeti."
He nodded, agreeing.
I looked at them both, a confused look on my face.
"Hurry," Mrs. Knightley said, handing the baby to Mr. Knightley. "We need to run-fast."
I looked behind me. The gym door rattled.
I turned in time to see Mrs. Knightley take off her black heels and start sprinting towards the front of the high school. I quickly followed, with Mr. Knightley and the baby behind me.
