"Mom? What's going on?" Harry said into the phone. He listened for a while without speaking, his eyebrows furrowed. He glanced at me briefly, not quite reaching my eyes; suddenly, he stood up and stepped into his room, the door slamming slightly behind him, the phone still pressed tightly against his ear

I raised my eyebrows, but at the same time I wasn't surprised. He probably didn't want to be in the same room as me right now. What was I thinking? I couldn't believe I was about to kiss him. I mean, it seemed like he was going to kiss me too until the phone rang, but I would never know until it actually happened. I had high hopes, but I wasn't sure if I really expected anything to go farther.

Why was Anne calling Harry this early in the day? She usually called Harry at night, just to check in and whatnot. And why did he have such a pained expression on his face? There couldn't be something seriously wrong, things like that just didn't happen to him.

But as I thought about it longer and longer, Harry still hadn't come out. An hour later, I decided to ask him what was up. I stood up from the couch and walked up to his door and knocked gently. The room was quiet.

"Harry?"

No reply.

"Harry? Do you want to tell me what's wrong?"

Silence.

I sighed. He wasn't going to answer me. I turned the door handle and stepped inside. "You know, ignoring me and refusing to talk to me isn't going to-"

I stopped in my tracks. Harry's face was wet with tears and his eyes were red and swollen. His hair was a mess from him pulling at it and his knuckles were white on his clenched fists. I an instant, I was at his side, kneeling down on the floor in front of him, taking his hands in mine. I tried to hide his face, but it was too late.

"Haz...what happened?

He hesitated for a second, but turned to look at me. His eyes were dark, unusual for his happy nature. He was studying me, like he was trying to make a connection in his head. And then he spoke.

"Lou, I love you. You know that right?"

My heart twitched. "Of course I do. We're best mates," I said

He quirked an eyebrow and sighed. "Yeah, well...you know I'd never do anything on purpose to hurt you right?"

"Of course," I said, moving my hand to smooth out his hair.

"Well I have to tell you something, and I'm not sure how you're going to take it...," he mumbled, not looking at me anymore.

This is when started to worry. I thought I knew Harry pretty well. We've told each other secrets that absolutely no one knows, the good and the bad. So what was so bad that he could hurt me if he told me? But I had to let him know he could tell me anything.

"Hazza, you can tell me anything, you know that," I said simply, still playing with his hair. With no warning he raised his hand up to where mine was and held it in his hand, sliding it down to his cheek. He looked into my eyes again.

"Louis, I'm engaged."
