I sat in the rain, beside a tree. I breathed in. It got darker every minute, even though it was only 1:00. I had saved lives. I gave everyone courage. The thing was, it gave me much fear. I had not wanted to show it, but it was true. The man looked at me with hatred both after and before I prayed for him. I needed somebody. Somebody to talk to me about different things. About a half hour later, I heard foot steps. Mrs. Adams walked into the grove and sat by me against the tree. The rain poured, and I was soaked. "Teddie," she began, "I.. " She stopped. I knew her words. She was proud. But the thing was, I never wanted to see her again. Too much terrible memories. "I can't. I'm going to quit my job and do something new, "Mrs. Adams said. "There are too many bad memories here." She paused, then wondered if I would like to stay with her until my foster parents came. I looked up into her eyes and said to her something I thought I would never say. "yes." I would love to be a teachers pet. Before this day, I would have been so embarrassed. But, she was going to quit being a teacher, and it would be until tomorrow that I would have to stay. I would like to be safe for at least one night in this town. We walked together back to school, and into her car. We drove away and never returned to the school of terrible memories.
