Just a note ya'll! I suggest you go look up on soundcloud
"Pista 03" by Gatsby (the Cholo Samurai) to give you a little bit of an idea of the music the boys are talking about in this chapter
Also, ILY for getting this far bc you're bae. Also it's kind of unclear I guess, but the big mistake Cassie makes still hasn't happened yet.

"So we have some news," Anthony blurted through a mouth full of Kung Pao Chicken. We were all sitting around the table at the local Chinese restaurant. Dex and I had shown up, after an awkward day of waiting around til we all had to meet. I had taken extra time getting ready, and extra time in the bathroom, just so I didn't have to deal with him for longer than I had to. When I had woken up, he was already in the kitchen making breakfast. I talked to his parents, and ate, and then went to watch some tv without him. I don't know if they could tell anything was off, but I was glad they didn't ask. I had woken up with a feeling of helplessness. I knew that now Dex and I were just friends, and nothing I could do would change that. No amount of my relentless whining, and guilting, would get me anywhere.
Sitting at the table with everyone was kind of bittersweet too. Anthony, Jake, and three other friends of ours who were part of our close group were there: Alana, Sarah, and Jared. Alana and Sarah were best friends, which sometimes got uncomfortable for me. They already knew so much about each other, and were already so close, that no matter how close I was to either of them, they would be closer. I didn't really know how to relate to them one on one either. In a group we were fine, but alone we probably couldn't hang out without it being a little awkward. So now, surrounded by all of Dex's close friends, I knew this was probably the last time I would purposefully be in the same room with all of them.
"We're moving!" Jake exclaimed.
"Um, to where?" Alana asked, not really paying attention.
"New York," Anthony replied nonchalantly. As if them moving to the other side of the country was nothing.
"Why in God's name are you two moving to New York!?" I exclaimed.
"The three of us," was Dex's correction.
I turned to look at him.
"Three of you?" That was news to me. Dex and I hadn't talked about what he was going to do after graduation, but I just assumed he would go to the local college, or work for his parents. Not leave to New York. It was a silly thing to think, considering Dex had a family he was leaving, but I couldn't help but feel like he was leaving me.
"New York is the smartest place for us to be if we want our music to be a real thing," Anthony said in all seriousness.
I rolled my eyes. Call me old fashioned, but relocating for a music career didn't really seem like the most practical move for them. Visions of the boys homeless, wandering the streets of New York flashed through my head. Their music wasn't terrible. It was pretty good, for a bunch of guys from the suburbs of San Diego, but I didn't think it was that big of a deal enough that they would try and move across the country to pursue a career in the industry.
