We leave the cloud base and start travelling south. I don't really want to talk to Jack. I don't need a guilt trip or anything else from him. He's only a mandatory traveling partner. Of course it doesn't matter that I don't really have anything to say to him, he's going to talk regardless.
"Sig, are you okay?" "I'm fine." Instead of replying he sighs. Wells that's a nice change for once. Though it doesn't last long. "You know, I didn't think it possible but being a winter sprite made you cuter." "Excuse me?" "The pointed ears really suit you." I have to hold back something that would've resembled a growl. The tone of his voice didn't indicate whether he was trying to flirt or just get a conversation going but I didn't really feel like talking outside of this ridiculous mission we had been sent on. Since he refused to keep silent I decided to just end the conversation with something definitive. "How many pixies do we have to get?" "Three." Every pixie was responsible for something to do with nature. "Which ones?" "Nightshade, Oleanders, and Poinsettia" "Why those three? They're pretty potent." "All three plants have disappeared." "Completely?" "Entirely, there isn't a single living one left." "Is that really a problem seeing as they're all poisonous?" "There needs to be balance in nature, and it's not normal for pixies to just disappear." "Wouldn't storing them in, oh you know, ANTARCTICA might affect that a little bit." "Sig, that's the only place left in the entire world we haven't looked. That's why Winter is sending us, because whatever has them is packing a big punch." "Still, why those three? There are so many deadly plants." "We'll figure that out soon enough."
I just let his words hang in the air. The closer we get to the equator the worse it gets. Even the air is different enough to drive both of us insane. There's a reason there isn't any snow in some places, and there's an even bigger reason as to why we avoid them. "Sig, are you okay?" "I'm fine, and would you please stop calling me that?" The heat was getting to me but I didn't think it was that noticeable, when I started paying attention to Jack I realized how much I had fallen behind. Damn this insufferable heat. "What else am I supposed to call you Si....g" At least he tried to stop. "My name Jack, it's Sigourney." "Sig...ourney, you aren't looking too good. Maybe we should stop travelling for a bit." "I'm fine Jack." "Well what if I'm tired?" "Then I'll wait for you when I get tired." "Wow, really? Listen I get that you hate me, but would it kill you to try to be the least bit civil?" "Don't you realize, this is civil?" "Do you really hate me that much?" "You ruined my life, and then when I tried to fix it, you took it from me!" "You could've swam." "Excuse me?" "You could've swam!" "But I fell through the ice!" "And you know how to swim! It doesn't matter if it was winter or the middle of the Summer, you knew. You wanted to drown!" "Why would I want that?!" "You tell me Sigourney! It's time you stopped babying yourself and faced the damn truth because I'm sick of you putting this all on me every single time something goes wrong in your perfect little universe." "You killed me family." "No, a car crash did. An airbag killed your father. If you're brothers had been wearing their seat-belts they would've lived, and so would've your mother." "What about me though? Father Winter even said that you chose me and it wasn't him who caused the incident when I was sixteen!" "He didn't say that I caused it either. I picked you, but I didn't want you to die so young. Don't you get that I wanted to be with your forever? You weren't meant to fall then. I tried so hard to save you but please excuse me for not dedicating my entire existence to you and shirking all of my responsibilities like you expected me to." "Jack, what's happened to you?" "Nothing but you."
Then the conversation did die.
