Going Home

Robin held out for taking Regina home.
"A woman shouldn't be alone outside at so late an hour", he said as they stepped out of the Rabbit Hole. It was quite cold and Regina was glad that she brought her coat with her.
"I'm able to defend myself" she explained. "You don't have to come along."
"Oh, I'm sure you're able to give a man a kick in the lunchbox. But I want to make sure that you arrive at home safely."
His words made her smile. "As you wish"
To be honest, she did not mind at all. When he did not bump into her, he was quite sympathetic. In fact she liked his company. They had the same sense of humor and they both seemed to be in a relationship with their jobs.
"Are you really giving in, Mills?" he teased.
"Don't get used to it, Locksley" she replied.
A laugh escaped his throat and their eyes met. She was lost in the infinitive depths of his blue iris. In the faint light of a lantern she could not see his entire facial features. His eyes looked darker and at the same time there was a radiance in them she could not exactly interpret. The wrinkles beside them let him look younger and even more handsome.
"How did it happen that you decided to become a lawyer?" he asked her. Whiffs of smoke came out of his mouth while he was speaking.
" I always respected people who support others cause. And I wanted to have a job where I'm able to help people" she explained.
"I totally understand what you mean. But sometimes... I don't know, I feel a need to force my clients to fight for their marriage" he replied while putting his hands inside the pockets of his coat which underlined his descent perfectly.
Although Regina had no idea what he was thinking about, she did not agree with his opinion. If two people did not come along with each other, there was no reason to save a marriage. In the most cases it was not even a marriage anymore. She worked on so many divorces in her whole career, so that she knew exactly that hopeless romance did not provide success.
"That's very unprofessional" she said.
"Rather romantically minded, don't you think?" he asked raising his eyebrows and nudged her with his shoulder. It was a little difficult to keep the balance but the black-haired woman handled it somehow.
"Or desperate" was her response. A mocking smile appeared on her face. At the same time she wondered if they already flirted with each other. Withal they were opponents in an important case. It would be very dilettantish. But there was something about him which attracted her. She did not know if it were these big blue eyes or the charming smile. Maybe it was also his British accent which had her legs turned to jelly.
Or maybe it's just the wine. Alcohol always makes the best of any situation, she thought. Albeit she did not drink much, this kind of explanation sounded more logical to her.
"At court, you'll be the one who's going to be desperate" he countered.
"You wish!"

"How was your meeting?" Henry asked as Regina entered the apartment.
"Interesting. But we didn't really find a solution" she informed him. With legs heavy as lead she removed her high heels and the black coat she was wearing. She was really tired.
"Why not?" Henry wanted to know, his eyebrows raised, and in that moment she saw the outward semblance to herself.
"Let's say, this guy is hard to see through" she replied. And he was a little too self confident concerning his career.
"I think, that's something you have in common" her son grinned. He reached out for a glass of orange juice. "Want some too?"
"No, thank you. I think I'm going to bed now."
He nodded. "Goodnight, Mom. Sweet dreams" he winked and Regina rolled her eyes.

Robin had to pick up his son at Will's. He was a good friend and had offered to take for him this evening.
His mind was still spinning around Regina Mills. As long as he could assess, she was a very rational person. During their conversation he could see that she was strictly trying to talk only about their work.
She loved being in control. But after some more glasses of red wine, she got more accessible. And he had to admit that she had impressed him. The glance in her smart brown eyes. The little scar above her lip and her smile were stunning in every way. His heart beat faster against his chest. He was surprised that only one thought of her could evoke this kind of reaction.
He shook his head in astonishment.
You just met. Pull yourself together, mate, he thought. It's not like she's the love of your life. Maybe you have a lower tolerance for alcohol than you thought you have.
When he arrived at Will's house, his wife Anastasia opened.
"Robin" she smiled. "It's good to see you."
"Hi" he grinned and embraced the blonde woman. "I just wanted to pick up Roland."
"Of course, come in."
Robin found his son next to Will on the couch. They were watching a movie.
"Hi there" he said and got a big smile from his son.
"Daddy!" He jumped up from the couch and his father enfolded him in his arms to spin him around.
"Why are you still awake, huh?" he asked. "It's late."
"That'll be on my head" Will answered and switched off the television.
"This time I will turn a blind eye to it" he replied and mussed up the boy's hair. It was as curly as the one of his mother. Unfortunately she passed away when he was almost two years old. He did not really remember her. But Robin was sure he would have loved Marian. She had been a kind and wonderful woman.
"Thank you for looking out for Roland" Robin continued.
"You're welcome, mate" Will responded and clapped him on the shoulder. "I would offer you a drink but it's probably too late, right?"
He nodded. "Yes, maybe another time."
They said goodbye to each other and Robin and his son hurried to get home. Luckily it was not far from where the Scarlets lived.
"So, how was your evening?" he asked and grabbed his son's hand.
"Great" he answered. Obviously he overflew with energy. Robin himself was rather exhausted. Again and again a pair of brown eyes, framed by long lashes, appeared in his mind.
"Anastasia baked American Cookies with me. They're much better than the cookies in London. And Will and I watched Robin Hood together."
Robin Hood was Roland's favorite story. His father still had to read  the adventures of the thief out loud to him when it was time for bed.
"You baked cookies and you didn't leave one over for me?" he asked playfully offended.
"I'm sorry" he giggled. "The next time, you'll get one. I promise."
"I'll take you up on that" Robin replied and pressed his little body against his. It would be a lie if he claimed that it was easy being a single father and going to work at the same time. Of course he loved his job and he had to work a lot, but his son would always be more important to him. When he was not able to look after Roland, he asked the Scarlets or his sister Belle.
"If you want we can cook together someday."
"Sounds great, buddy" he responded, opening the front door to their apartment.

So, I hope you like the chapter. Roland's there :D Shall I write some more parts in Robin's point of view? What do you think?
