The first thing that he remembered was Calum. He remembered his laugh. The way his face got squishy when he smiles. He remembered how he always wanted to dye his hair but never had the guts to do it. For a moment that was all there was. Just Calum in a sea of confusion. He didn't remember his own name. He just remembered Calum. And if he was completely honest with himself, he didn't mind it. If Calum was the only thing he was ever going to remember then so be it.

The beeping he heard caused his memories to flood into his head all at once. Pounding into his skull. He knew his name. Luke. He had a brother named Jack. He knew where he lived. He knew where he had gone to school.

He remembered the accident. He remembered how it had happened; Jack had been driving. It was dark. It was pouring. The tree came out of nowhere. And that's it. That's all Luke remembered. He was sure he had died. But the sudden bursts of pain every few minutes assured him that he was possibly in a hospital.

Except, the last time Luke checked, hospital beds weren't made of cold metal.

He tried to move, which only made the pain worse. A low groan came from somewhere deep in his throat. He was so confused. He was freezing. He was in pain. All he wanted was to be back at home, cuddling on the couch with Michael as he quotes every line of Mean Girls.

"...sure it'll work," a man's frustrated voice was muffled. Luke assumed behind the door leading to whatever room he was in. "I just need a little more time. The budget you gave me isn't helping with the time limit you gave me. It's impossible to bring someone back from the dead without some consequences."

Luke really hoped this man wasn't talking about him.

"...I understand that, but..." the sound of a door opening made the man's voice sound extremely close. He was standing in the same room as Luke. "God, Dr. Wells, that isn't even the correct term...Frankenstein was the scientist. The monster never had a name - hello?" There was some angry grumbling. "Bastard hung up on me again."

Luke made a groaning noise, trying to signal that he was awake and wanted to know what the hell was going on.

"Are you - are you awake?" The man's voice was closer to Luke now. A little too close for comfort.

Luke could only grunt as a reply.

"Right, you can't move, uh, hold on." Luke heard the sound of nervous fumbling and metal. This man didn't seem like a professional. This wasn't really giving Luke and hope for his future. "You may feel a little shock. Or not. I'm not really sure."

Luke did feel a shock. But it didn't hurt. It gave him enough energy to open his eyes, and then it escalated to the point where it felt like he had a buzz. Once his eyes adjusted, though, his great feeling plummeted.

He was in a laboratory of some sort. Equipped with test tubes and weird metal devices, this place looked like something off of a science fiction film. And what scared Luke even more, was that the guy who he assumed to be the one that had been talking, was wearing a lab coat.

"Incredible..." The man stared at Luke in awe.

"What the fuck is going on?" Luke slowly sat up, wincing at the pain. "Where am I? And who the fuck are you supposed to be?"

"You can speak in full sentences..." the man kept staring.

"Of course I can speak in full sentences," Luke winced as he felt his head pounding. He needed to calm down. So he thought of Calum. He thought of how he once told Luke that he was his favorite person. Luke's head stopped pounding. "Just...tell me what's going on. Who are you?"

"I'm Dr. Mildred Addams," he stepped closer to Luke cautiously. "And you're in my lab."

"But why? Shouldn't I be in a hospital?" Luke went to bite his lip ring as he usually did when he was nervous, but it wasn't there. It was just the hole. But strangely enough it didn't feel like it had closed up at all. "The last thing I remember is...a car accident."

"Luke, this may be a lot to take in at once, maybe you should rest some more before I tell you - "

"Just tell me what happened and why I'm here, that's all I'm asking."

Addams sighed and gestured for Luke to look down. What Luke saw wasn't at all what he expected to see.

"W-what...?" He held his hand in front of his face just to make sure he wasn't hallucinating.

His skin was a pale green color, and his hand and arms looked like they were stitched together. Like those stiches were the only thing keeping his body parts connected to his body.

"Luke, you were decapitated on impact," Addams explained. "Everyone thinks you're dead, because, well, you were."

Calum...

"But you were eligible for this...project, and, well, I'd been waiting years for something to put me in the history books," Addams shook his head. "But it isn't just because of that. When I saw the pictures of you before the accident you reminded me of my son who, um...he died before he turned fifteen." He paused. "I thought you deserved a second chance."

"I understand that, but how could I possibly have a normal life looking like something out of a Halloween movie?" Luke looked down at his hands and arms again, but then felt his neck where the stitches felt deeper than all the other ones. And the bolts. He had fucking bolts in his neck. And there were some form of cables connected to them. He was charging like an iPhone battery. That was why he was suddenly awake.

"We can figure it out," Addams smiled a small smile. "In the meantime, I need to make a phone call - oh!" He went over to a drawer and pulled out Luke's ever so familiar laptop. "I found a way to get this for you. Don't worry, I have great internet here."

"I guess if anything good came out of this its good Wi-Fi," Luke smiled at his laptop which felt so familiar on his lap.

"I'll be back later, Luke." With that, Addams was gone, and Luke was left alone to think about what was going to happen to him.
