It had been three days since Luke had found out that he was technically dead and had been stitched together by a scientist. And he was bored. Like, extremely bored. It wasn't like he could blog. He was dead. Dead people couldn't reblog cute kitten vines. Even if they were wearing sailor hats.
He then decided to stalk Calum's Twitter. It wasn't like he could message him, but he could see how he was doing. Calum was a frequent twitter enthusiast, so he assumed there would be some good Calum content.
When he logged in, however, Luke found that Calum hadn't tweeted anything in weeks. His last one had been three weeks ago. Was he okay? Was he just taking a break from it all? That's when Luke realized. He was dead. Calum was his closest friend. Calum was probably grieving.
Luke slammed his laptop shut. This whole situation was the worst. He hadn't been able to walk or get off the stupid metal table in a week. He was stitched together like a science experiment. And everyone he ever loved was in pain thinking that Luke was gone forever. Little did they know he was locked in a room of some amateur scientist's house god knows where with bolts sticking out of his neck.
There was a knock on the door.
"Luke? I'm coming in."
Dr. Addams walked in, holding that stupid clipboard. He came in everyday to check on Luke's vitals. Luke never got much of an explanation about anything.
"Addams, can I ask you something?" Luke, although annoyed by the doctor, still felt like he had to be nice in some way. After all, he had brought him back from the dead. Though his methods were beyond what those would call normal.
"What is it, Luke?" Addams kept his eyes on his clipboard, glancing at Luke as he scribbled something down.
"Do you know how my family is doing?" Luke picked at the stitches on his left wrist. He had developed the habit over the course of the week. "I looked at my friend Calum's social media and he hasn't done anything in weeks."
"I'm sorry I don't," Addams stopped scribbling. "But I can check on it for you. Is that cool?"
"Yeah," Luke nodded. "Yeah that's cool."
"Alrighty," Addams put the clipboard down for the first time in a week. "Time to get up. I've put some clothes over there. I figure you don't want to be wearing a hospital gown anymore."
"Wha...you mean I can get up? I thought I couldn't walk?"
"You hadn't no," Addams looked excited. "But if my calculations are correct, the charging nonstop all week should have restored the strength to your legs."
Luke looked down at his feet.
"Are you sure? I won't fall?"
"I'm very sure. And if you fall, I'll catch you."
Luke took a deep breath as Addams unhooked the cables from Luke's neck. He swung his legs over the side of the table. His toes were touching the cold concrete floor. Luke made sure his hands were gripping onto the side of the table for support while he slid off the table. It was wobbly at first, but after a few seconds he felt perfectly normal and balanced.
"Shit, okay," Luke smiled. "Yeah, okay cool."
Addams grinned. "Well? Walk over to the clothes."
So Luke did. And for the first time since he had woken up in that room, he felt like himself again. He got to the clothes and he looked at Addams.
"A little privacy?"
"Right, duh," he walked over to the door. "Let me know when you're done."
Once Addams shut the door, Luke got dressed. The t shirt got caught on the stitches a couple times, but other than that it went smoothly.
Now Luke started wondering: why was Addams making him get dressed? Was he going to take Luke outside? Into the real world with real people?
Luke didn't know, but the possibilities were endless. Maybe one day he could see his family again. He could see Calum again.
