Chapter 5
Kasta's POV
Days past, Rosa had loads of money so we were able to afford to get out of the ratty motel and into one of the hotels that are in downtown. Calla and I have enough money to be able to live in the hotel for a couple months, but I want to be safe and stretch our money out for as long as I can, "Better safe then sorry" as my mom used to say.
I started to trust Rosa more and more. She doesn't talk to me like a little kid like she did a couple years ago, thankfully. If she did, I'm afraid of what I would do... Not to Rosa, but what Calla would see.
"Kasta! Guess what?" Calla asks eagerly jumping on the hotel bed, without waiting for an answer she continues, "Aunt Rosa says that we are going to eat a fancy restaurant today! You know why? Do ya?"
I pretend to contemplate, I knew the reason why, today is May 31st, Calla's 6th birthday. "I know why! Today is Christmas!" I say after a few moments of thinking.
"Nooo!" Calla exclaims, "it's my birthday!"
"Oh, right!" I say laughing, "today you are now 36, right?"
"Eew! Nooo!" Calla shrieks, "I am 6!"
"Oh, well you are an old lady then," I say laughing.
"Nooo! I am young!" Calla glares at me, making me laugh even harder. Just look at her! Her little face trying to look intimidating.
"Girls stop playing, we have to go if we are to be on time," Rosa says walking into the room. She seemed fidgety... Like she was nervous...
We arrive at the restaurant at about 6:30 p.m. Calla was right, this place is fancy. "Rosa, we can't afford this!" I whisper to Rosa in her ear, not wanting Calla to hear.
"Dear Kasta don't worry about anything I have everything covered," Rosa says as we sit down. She looks around, was it nervously? Noo, I'm imagining stuff...
A waitress comes up to our table and distributes the menus and silverware, "Hello! I am Jessica and I'll be your waitress for tonight!" She says in an overly perky voice, "do you know what you want to drink?"
"Root-beer!" Calla eagerly says jumping up and down.
We eat our dinner in silence, the place was almost empty, except for a rowdy group of men in the corner. Rosa kept on fidgeting with her hands, her napkin. It was getting annoying. She kept on glancing at the men, maybe she thought one of them was cute... Eeew gross, I don't want to think about that.
As Rosa payed the bill, I carried a sleeping Calla to Rosa's car. Right before I reached the car out of nowhere something tackled me to the ground. Thankfully I land on my back, not on Calla.
I roll over and lay Calla on the ground, whom is surprisingly still sleeping. Crouching over Calla in a protective stance I study my offender. It was the group of guys from in the restaurant and someone else... Rosa.
How dare she betray my trust?! Oh, she is going to get my sweet revenge after I take care of the Hunters.
------------------
Rosa's POV
I try not to draw attention to myself as I watch Kasta and Calla being surrounded by the Hunters, I can't stop them, I made a promise. Besides the girls would not be hurt, the Hunter leader promised to me himself.
I try not to shudder as I think of the nasty human- If I could even call him that.
"What do you want?!" Kasta growls, some of the men flinch at the animalistic anger in her voice.
John, the leader of the group, "Kasta Greene and Calla Greene you girls are orphans, and now are in custody of the state. You are being taken to a-"
"Oh, cut it with the lying game!" Kasta says furiously, her claws already out, "The Hunters are not going to take Calla! Nor I on that matter!" And with that Kasta shifts into her cat, I feel the jealousy rise in the pit of my stomach, it is no fair that the worthless kid had gotten such a beautiful cat, while I had gotten stuck with a puny spider, that can be squashed in seconds.
John yawns as if bored and he lifts his hand, a signal. A guy lifts up a gun he aims it at Kasta's cat form. With two small pffts two sleeping darts hit Kasta's side.
She looks at it as if she doesn't know what it was, suddenly she whips her head back around and with a yowl she throws herself at John, her balancing already off.
Kasta lands a couple scratches against the human, before she fell into deep sleep.
I watched as John and the other Hunters lifted the sleeping girls into a white van. Unsure what I should do.
John looks at me, "you are not needed anymore, run away. Remember we know where your family lives," and with that he jumps into the van and drives away.
