It was dark.

That was the only thing that I could tell immediately after coming to my senses. It was pitch black, and it was most likely because there was something tied over my eyes--a blindfold. It was pulled taut over my eyelids, and it was uncomfortably tight against my nose ridge.

A million questions paraded through my head with extreme speed, and I felt a feeling of panic come up my throat as I failed to handle my confusion. I couldn't see, and someone had purposely made it that way. Either this was a surprise birthday party or I was in potential danger.

It wasn't my birthday.

Breathe, Jungkook, I commanded myself, inhaling through my nose deeply. Assess your surroundings or something, I don't know. Just find a way out.

I wriggled my fingers. There was a thick, scratchy rope tied around my wrists extremely tightly, and my fingers were going cold with numbness. I was sitting in a hard chair, and the image of a classic kidnap victim being tied up in a seat flashed through my head. This was no music video shoot, and I was beginning to freak out.

Light footfalls resonated throughout the room, and I guessed that I was in a generally empty room based off of the amount of echoes. Immediately, I sat up straight, alert for what was to come. There was a deep chuckle, one that resonated deeply.

"Awake?" I almost lost it after hearing his voice. It all made sense now. The stranger that had seduced me out of nowhere, the handcuffs.

A part of me was relieved that I finally knew what was going on, but I was also... disappointed?

He didn't mean anything. The only goal was to capture me, not to attract me.

And why was I disappointed about that?

Before I could delve any deeper into my thoughts, I felt a slight tug at the back of my head, and the blindfold fluttered off my eyes and into my lap. I glanced up. It was a room full of gray. Gray linoleum floor, gray cabinets, gray furniture. It was incredibly clean and pristine, like an overbearing surgeon's operating room, but the color made the atmosphere dull and empty.

"Look alive, sunshine." Standing in front of me was none other than V. He still remained angelic looking, but the harsh glare of the lights gave him the eerie aura of a fallen one. He was the dentist that smiled before drilling a hole into your tooth. He was the younger sibling that adored to frame his elder siblings. V wouldn't seem to be the guy that was scary, but at that moment, he was absolutely terrifying.

My fear must've shown in my expression, because he smiled, a predatory glow illuminating his dark eyes. He knelt down in front of me and placed his hands on my knees, forcing me to look down at him between my legs. Certain thoughts flashed through my head, but I oppressed them. He was playing me now as well, wasn't he?

"I'm sorry if this chair is uncomfortable," he began sweetly, his cheeks rising as he smiled, "but I didn't have enough rope to tie you to a sofa."

I gaped for a good four seconds before coming back to my very terrified, frayed senses.

"W-Why are you doing this?" I asked hoarsely, feeling my lower lip tremble. "What's going on?"

V propped his elbows onto my knees and rested his head between his interlaced fingers. He pursed his lips into a childish pout and glanced up at me with his dark eyes. His pink tongue darted out for a second to wet his lips before he spoke, and my eyes bulged at the sight of it.

"I would call it... an experiment," he answered. "You see, you humans have always intrigued me, but, unfortunately, the ones I've had before were oh-so boring. I couldn't stand them. But you, Golden Maknae, I heard that you're different. I heard that you're near-perfect. I want to see what you can do, Golden Boy."

"Isn't this... illegal?" I sputtered, my mind reeling at incredible speed. "Kidnapping? Human experiments?"

"Sure it is." V shrugged nonchalantly, as if it didn't matter to him. "That's why it's good to be a phenomenal liar and to have rich, influential human caretakers."

Human caretakers? Was he talking about his parents?

I forced myself to stare into his eyes. They were cold and haunting, and I was afraid of what I saw. People say that eyes were the window to the soul. If that was true, this boy did not have a soul. His eyes were intelligent and analyzing, but they held no emotion. It was like staring into a machine.

This was staring into the soul of a killer.

"Y-You... You said something about the humans you've had before..." I murmured, my eyes wide and panicked. "What happened to them?"

V sighed, shaking his head. "I'm afraid that they were not worthy of my experiments," he admitted, a twinge of sadness tinting his voice. No, it wasn't sadness. It was disappointment. He'd subjected multiple people to these experiments based off of his own whim and was disappointed about their deaths. Who was this monster?

"Are you... Are you going to kill me too?" I whimpered, fully aware of how dire the situation was now. V hummed and raised himself, propping his hands on my thighs and leaning over so that our noses almost touched. He chuckled, his warm breath wafting over my face.

"That's why I chose you," he whispered, his narrow eyes gleaming. "I want to see if you're worthy."
