Chapter 10

Gabriel was at my door by eight the following day, looking every bit the peasant he was trying to be in a black tunic and long brown cloak that covered his long hair and golden eyes. I blinked in stock when I sung the door open and saw him standing there.

He was obviously trying to be inconspicuous.

My eyes – after adjusting to seeing Gabriel in poor people's clothes once again – shifted to the tall man by his side. He was covered in tattoo's and his hair was jet black and matched with his eyes. His forearms were pale but almost every inch was marked with dark ink, drawings of different things, words and patterns.

I had never been one to find tattoo's attractive, but he worked them so well that they looked good on him.

"Lilith, this is Malakai Yu. He'll be our muscle on the trip." Gabriel waved towards the man at his side, who nodded his head and extended his hand.

"Everyone calls me 'Mal.'" His deep voice sent surprise through me.

"It's a pleasure to meet you." I stated shaking his hand and looking back towards Gabriel, who was looking down at the suit that I was wearing with raised eyebrows. "What?"

"You getting ready to go fight someone?" He asked, still eyeing the glossy black suit.

I rolled my eyes, "No, I was trying it on. Jon made it for me." The true of the matter was that I had also tried it on last night and loved it so much that I had put it on again this morning and had forgotten to get out of it before Gabriel arrived. "Let me get changed." I ducked back into my room, closing the door and stripping out of the suit, before throwing on a plain black tunic and my cloak and some leather pants Jon had made for me before picking up my boots and heading back towards the door, pulling them on as I went.

When I appeared again at the door, Gabriel gave me a nod of approval before he started heading down the Hall, Mal following closely after him. Mal had to have been a few inches taller than Gabriel but Gabriel was stockier, which was interesting considering Mal was supposed to be our Muscle. I probably would have had more of a chance at protecting us then what it looked like Mal would.

The three of us pulled up our hoods as we snuck out one of the side gates to the castle and slipped into the early morning flow of people. I could remember spending so many mornings as a part of this flow, everyone in a rush to get the freshest food and deals in the morning. Some people didn't even care about trampling others just to get the best. It was complete chaos but the rush of making it to the stall you were looking for was addictive.
