"c'mon in, my mom wants to meet you," ashton said nervously, taking luke's hand in his and tugging him into the house. "she's been having good days so we can be loud and put the lights on."

ashton'd gone inside while luke called his mom and talked harry into sleeping with lauren in her room just this once so that his friend and him could have the room. luke assumed ashton'd asked his mom if he could stay as well, and that's why she suddenly gained interest in the small boy. luke was pleased to hear that she was doing better. that was more comforting for ashton, anyways.

luke smiled. "that's awesome, ashton," he said, and ashton beamed at him.

they walked hand-in-hand to ashton's mom's room. ashton walked in first, knocking on the open door softly. "mom? luke's here," ashton bit his lip, and luke exposed himself next to the taller boy, holding the latter's hand behind their backs.

"hi," ashton's mom smiled.

"hello, mrs. irwin," luke said shyly. "i'm luke."

she was a fairly friendly looking woman, laying in a bed with a tv playing softly to the right of her. she had light blonde hair, unlike ashton's own dark blonde, almost brown curls. her smile had a gap in it that luke found almost suitable.

"oh, no. don't call me that," she replied, her voice stern but playful, like ashton. "you can call me anne! anyways, i've heard a bit about you, luke."

his cheeks blazed with red, and when he glanced up at ashton, his did, too. "have you, really?" luke asked, still looking at ashton who was ignoring his stare. ashton's mom knew just how to embarrass her son, so she kept on.

"oh, yes. ashton tells me you're a freshman?" anne asked, and luke nodded. "ashton, i didn't realize you liked 'em younger . . ."

ashton smacked a hand to his face. "okay, that's enough. we'll be in my room, mom. harry's in lauren's room. love you," he muttered before dragging luke down the hall to his bedroom. ashton closed the door behind them and sighed, making luke giggle. "i swear to god, this is what i deal with."

luke sat down on the mattress on the floor, now covered in plain grey sheets with a big black blanket. "i didn't think your mom knew you liked guys," he said, a bit of a giggle still in his voice as ashton sat down next to him.

"yeah, i told her last year," he said. "the kids don't know, and i think it's for the best until they're exposed to it some more. i don't want to tell harry and then have him go to school and go around asking what it means, and everything would be messy with his teacher. i just don't want all the drama. lauren's ready, but i want to tell them at the same time."

luke nodded, not sure when he'd tell jack and ben. "my brothers don't know, and i don't know if they'd be cool with it," he shrugged.

"if your mom is, they probably will be," ashton assured, and luke wasn't too sure. it grew quiet and ashton bumped shoulders with the blonde boy, capturing his attention from a spot on the wall where luke's blue eyes were intently focused on. "what do you wanna' do?"

he shrugged his shoulders. "what is there to do?" luke asked, and looked up at ashton. the honey haired boy smiled.

"well, we could watch movies on my laptop. or we could go outside and kick the football around. or i could kiss you again," ashton jested, and luke blushed, licking his lips. he looked away momentarily and then back up at ashton's eyes, almost taken aback by the way that the usual hazel was sparkling a little bit more greener. "you want me to kiss you again?"
