The Departure

1863 (3 years later)

I was walking to the general store when I heard someone call my name. "Aphrodite!!" I turned to see Stefan running down the road. "Stefan. What are you doing?" I asked giggling. "Damon. He's. Back." He says bending over out of breath. My eyes widen. "He's back?" He nods his head. "Well!! What are we waiting for?!?!" I say grabbing his hand while lifting my skirt and running back to his house.

Over the years, the Salvatore brothers and I have become great friends. I consider them my brother and I their sister. They know everything, well except the part that I'm part fish. I don't think they could handle that.

We continue running until I see a head full of black hair facing the other way. "Damon!!" I yell, running towards him. He's been off fighting in the war and I missed him dearly. I continue to run towards him and he scups my into a hug and spins me around. "Aphrodite!!! Oh how I have missed you." He says. He puts me down as Stefan comes and we have a group hug. We laugh and let go.

"Aphrodite, Stefan. I have learned a game down in Atlanta. I must teach you how to play." He gets out a wierd shaped ball. "What is it called?" I ask. "It's called football." He says while throwing the ball to Stefan. Stefan then throws the ball to me. I catch it with ease and throw it to Damon.

We have been playing for hours when I heard my name being called from a distance. I turn to see Ann rushing towards me as fast as she can holding up her skirt. "Ann. What is wrong?" I asked. "Your brother has been injured." I look at her with fright. I turn to Damon and Stefan to see them walk towards me.

"What? How?" I ask while studdering. "A man attack him. That's all it said in the letter, dear." By then, Stefan and Damon are by my side. "I must go." I say handing them back the football. "What! You can't." Damon says. "I must. He's my brother, I need to know if he's ok." I say walking behind Ann.

We make it back to the cabin and she tells me what happened. A fisherman was trying to catch him. When he did he was stabbed but he somehow got away.

"I must go, Ann." I say. She grabs my hand. "Wait till night fall. No one will be out at the time." I nod my head. She fixes dinner and we eat. Soon, night fall comes and I start to head out when I hear a knock at the door. Ann goes and opens it to see the Stefan and Damon.

"What are you guys doing here?" I ask pulling them in a hug. "You did not think we would leave without saying goodbye to our sister, would you?" I smile and look at them. "Thank you for having open arms for me here in Mystic Falls. I am glad to know kind people like all of you." I say stroking their cheeks. I kiss both of their cheeks and they pull me into another hug. "We will miss you, Aphrodite. It won't be the same without you." Stefan says. "Will we see you again?" Damon asks with saddness in his eyes. "Of course you will see me again." They nod their heads. "You must want to say your goodbye to Ann in private so we will leave."

They walk towards the door but not before a final goodbye. The door closes and I turn to Ann and she has tears in her eyes. "Do not cry. If you cry then I shall cry." I say with tears threating to fall. She laughs. "I will miss you dearly, Aphrodite." She says. She pulls me into a tight hug. We let go and walk outside together. She's gonna walk me to the ocean.

When we get there, I take off my clothes and hand them to her. I begin to walk in the water and am waist deep. I turn to Ann. "Before I go, I must tell you the price of helping a mermaid. You will be granted one wish. Nothing that can alter world kind or against someones free will. So wish wisely." I say and wave to her. She smiles and waves. I hold onto my necklace and wish for my tail.

The blend of my light blue and gold tail shimmers in the water with the moon light. I swim to the surface and wave one last time to Ann, then dive in to the ocean, swimming to be with my family.
