CHAPTER 4
As we were about to get into the gym, Will excused himself to the bathroom. So instead of standing there waiting for him I walked into the gymnasium that we're forced to stay in until the bell rings, every single person turned to look at me collectively. Me being socially awkward and getting terrified when just one person looks at me. I didn't really know what to do so I just walked to where I normally sit, trying my best not to trip, my footsteps echoing across the silent room. I looked up when I sat down and saw everyone was still staring at me. Though one person in particular stood out. He was so red he literally look like a tomato with ears, Josh. Figuring that there was nothing I could to get people to stop staring at me, I pull out my notebook, sat cross legged, and started to draw a very life like tomato person with a (varsity?) jacket with steam coming out its ears. Just as I started on the lips, something surprised me. I was hit on the head with an eraser. But one of those large ones. Like half of a brick size large. I looked up from my notebook and saw Josh snickering with the rest of his posse. Feeling a burst of courage I picked it up, put it in my bag. I mouthed "Thank you" and I pantomimed an "OK" sign with my hand and went back to drawing. Out of the top of my eye, I could see Josh turn back into tomato man and his posse just looking at him. Everyone else mouths were agape. This is where Will decided to come in. "Hey Art, what'd I miss?" he asked. "Not much" I replied, going back to my drawing. "What are you drawing?" he chuckled. "Josh" I replied pointing. He looked where I was pointing and broke down into laughter. I've never seen him laugh before, and I'm glad I was able to make him laugh. "Ha ha ha ha! That is so accurate! How did you do that?! It's so good!" he managed to get out. "Well his face is sort of round and very red at the moment and it reminded me a lot of an angry tomato." I answered, smiling. The bell rang and everyone got up and crowded the doors. It just so happened that Josh was behind me so he elbowed my chest, hard. Feeling a rush of anger I reached my foot out and trip him. He used these two poor freshman's shoulders to stay upright. I stepped out of the mess as Josh came up to me, grabbed my shirt and pinned me against the lockers about 6 in off the ground. I saw Will out of the corner of my eye coming towards us with anger in his face. I held out a finger towards him to stop. "Do it." I said to Josh. "I dare you." "What? Do you not think I will?!" he spat. "Not here and not now I don't think you will. Look over your right shoulder and up. What you've done already could get you detention if I point them in that direction, the administrators quite like me here. They like me a bit more than their precious little senior jock. So put me down." I commanded. I can't believe that just happen. I've never in a billion years could've predicted that I would have done that. He dropped me, my feet hitting the floor. "Fag." he said walking away. "Says you" I replied bravely. He paused for a second and walked away. After I saw him turn into his home base classroom I backed into the lockers and slid down and held my head in my hands. "Dude why are you sad? That was awesome!" Will asked. "I-I'm not sad, it's just the adrenaline and the nerves. I've never done anything like that. I'm shaking." I said, drawing in a raggedy breath. "I just need a second." "Congratulations man, I can tell how much of a challenge that was." he said. He reached out his hand. "Come on, we need to get to class." I grabbed it and stood up. When we got to the part that separated the grades Will spoke up. "Hey, do you actually know the administrators here?" he asked "Haaa... nope. I made it up." I replied. "Seriously?! You made that up?! How did you know he wouldn't call your bluff?" he exclaimed. "Well I knew he knew that my mom is in the air force and my dad is an archeologist and has been in Africa for the past few years. Adults are typically sympathetic and would let me get away with a lot more than other kids, if I wanted to get away with something. And also kid who don't have a lot of friends hang out with the adults and make friends with them even if I don't. To be honest, if he(bold font) went to the principal, he could probably get me expelled for tripping him and he would get away with a suspension for beating me up since he's the "star quarterback" here." I answered. "Wow" he said. " I thought you just did that because you were angry, I didn't know you had a plan." he said in disbelief. "Oh I did do that because I was angry. I just thought of a plan so I wouldn't been murdered in this dump." I said with a sly smile. "Tch, of course you would, catch you later" he waved and walked away. "Cya" I said.
