My heavy eyelids immediately fluttered open, blinking a few times before taking in my surroundings. How long was I out? Around me were boxes of all different sorts of items. Boxes of gunpowder, food, and other necessities were carefully stacked so they wouldn't fall in the worst of storms. They were bound together by ropes and chains but a few boxes remained free from the bonds. Everything seemed organized, however, some weapons were haphazardly scattered around the wooden floor. I smiled to myself. My hands and feet were bound and I was gagged but if I could get my hands on sword I would be able to get free.
They made this way to easy.
I quickly scooted over to a lone dagger that was out of it's casing. There was talking on the deck above, morning chatter, that signaled to me it was sunrise. I looked up at the wood above me, shaking my head and worked at the ropes that bound my hands together. They slid of fairly easily and I proceeded to the ropes binding my feet. Light suddenly entered the dark hole I was in and there was creaking of wood. I winced at the sudden brightness that hit my eyes but recovered the second the figure blocked some of the light that was barely filtering in.
"Young lass! Are ya in here?" The shadowy figure called out into the darkness. He moved a little more into the light. His face had a long scar running from his left eye to the tip of hid mouth. I automatically gasped and quickly regretted. Scar-Face turned around and stared to walk towards my hiding place. His face carried a evil grin as he got closer and closer to the box. If I got captured now, all my hard work would have been for nothing.
I used all my strength and kicked down the box causing all of the cannon balls inside to tumble out and hit Scar-Face. He was taken by surprise and tumbled backwards, giving be enough time to race past him, up the ladder and out onto the deck.
The men who were scrubbing the deck stopped their chatter and gave me wide eyed stares.
The one who looked like a new recruit spoke up first. His clothing wasn't as tattered as the men next to him and his face was fairly clean. "You be the beauty that Cap'n captured?" He asked skeptically before muttering under his breath. "Not much of one... Cap'n must have gotten hit in the head..."
My confusion turned into anger.
"You say one more word and you'll be visiting Davy Jones' Locker." I threatened. "To. Nite." I smiled sweetly before using my foot to kick his wooden bucket across the deck, barley missing his head. It crashed into the rail, splintering into bits.
That caught the ship's attention. All the men on the deck stopped whatever they were doing and turned to stare at me. It was silent, the waves and the creaking of the boat could be clearly heard. I opened my mouth to say something but was cut off by a deeper voice that definitely not mine.
"GET BACK TO WORK MEN! I DIDN'T RECRUIT YOU ALL FOR NOTHIN'! "
The men immediately turned their attention back to whatever they were doing and ignored me completely. I scoffed and turned around to be face to face with Prince who had an amused look on his face. His dark hair was lazily pushed to the right side of his face and his clothes looked like he had just gotten out of bed.
"Remind me to never you angry, love." His expression changed and he gave me an odd look, but continued on. "And I do not like it when my prisoner tries to run my ship."
I suddenly dawned on me I was the prisoner... and I needed to know why I was on this ship.
My hand reached for the dagger that I had hidden upon stepping up onto the deck but there was nothing there.
"You lookin' for this?" He asked as he pulled out the dagger from his pocket, a sly smile light up his face.
Oh crap.
My hand shot out, and I childishly tried to grab the dagger from his hand. There was no way I was going to be tied up again. Prince laughed. He held it high above my head and watched my sad attempts of trying to take it back.
"Aren't you going to ask why I kidnapped you?" Prince inquired after getting bored. He shook his head and placed the dagger back into the front pocket of his pants when I didn't say anything.
I stopped my jumping and smiled at him sheepishly. "Well... I forgot..." I said as I looked at my feet, not knowing if I could face the embarrassment of forgetting.
Prince raised his eyebrows at me. "You, love, are the worst prisoner I've ever held. Did Tyde teach you anythin'?"
I stood there in silence for a few moments, reflecting on everything I learned from Tyde. Nothing really. "Well.. There was that one time-"
"WATCH YER HEAD!"
I instantly ducked and watched as a hook passed through the air that my head was just in. Looking back up at the place I was just in, I sighed. That was a close one, my head almost flew off the side of the deck. Prince ran a dangerous ship.
A young boy ran up to us looking very guilty. "I'm so sorry, Cap'n! I was just hooking up- and then I-" He stuttered over his words and was looking down, not meeting Prince's entertained look. When his hand patted the boys back, the boy looked up, shocked by Prince.
"Don't worry Pete, I understand. Everyone makes mistakes. Just don't be makin' them to often, or else this ship may be goin' down cause of you." The boy, Pete, smiled at Prince and nodded his head vigorously, his eyes sparkling with admiration, his long blonde hair swinging everywhere. Judging from his height and face, he seemed about 14 years old. About the same age as Ben.
Pete noticed me as soon as I stood up and brushed the imaginary dust of myself, not wanting to interrupt their "moment".
He gave me a curious glance, then turned back to his Cap'n. "Is she the girl that can find..." He leaned towards him, "the stone?" He whispered, loudly I might add. He took another glace at me. "She's pretty though." Pete grinned at me widely and ran away, back to his task.
The stone...
I had heard something about a stone before, Stone of Essence.
Stone of Essence.
A stone that grants any wish in the world.
A stone that's location has been lost to time.
A stone that's killed any person trying to find it.
"Do you want ME to help YOU find the Stone of Essence?" Disbelief seeped into my voice as I asked him. There was no way we'd survive this.
"Yes. Yes I do."
