Chapter 3
My front teeth anxiously dug into my bottom lip as I stared into the classroom. Like a typical school room, the desks were arranged so that they weren’t touching. Teachers must think that this will stop us from talking during class, but they are terribly wrong. Even though I’ve never met anyone of them, I can easily pick out each group of friends by how they sat near each other and leaned towards the middle.
Where would I sit?
I obviously didn’t have a group of friends that I could sit by and talk comfortably with. I could sit and join a group, but most likely I would feel unwanted. With girls, it can sometimes be easy enough to automatically know a her character by how much clothing they were wearing, but that was just a stereotype. I’ve known girls who wore shirts that actually covered their entire chest area and didn’t pour on makeup, but still treated me like I lit their tampon on fire.
“Olivia!” I heard my name being called. I blinked myself back into reality. I smiled in relief at Cindy who was waving her arms frantically in the air. I bit back a laugh and pulled out a chair between her and a girl who obviously overdosed on makeup.
“Eva! Meet my new friend, Olivia!” Cindy said in her naturally loud voice that had a couple heads turning our way. Eva muttered a soft “hi” to me without looking up from the floor.
Before the silence even had a chance to become awkward, Cindy started chatting away about some random gossip. I smiled and nodded frequently while in my head I struggled to keep up with the new names. Donna cheated on Steven with… Brock? No, it was Brandon. Wait, isn’t that the guy who got expelled? Or was that Jeremy? Yep, I was lost.
I only snapped out of my confused gaze when I realized Cindy wasn’t speaking anymore. Instead, she stared at the floor with a light blush on her cheeks.
“What’s wrong?” I asked her. Her grey eyes snapped up to look at me. They were open so wide that I almost expected them to pop out.
“Don’t. Move. A. Muscle.” She hissed harshly. Her voice and tone shocked me into silence. I stood perfectly still almost afraid that there was a T-Rex behind me or something.
My mind works in mysterious ways..
Cindy let out a long sigh of relief and her posture relaxed. Her shoulders hunched and she was breathing like she had just run a marathon.
“Are you…. Okay?” I asked cautiously. She shot up again and casually got pencil and paper from her book bag.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” She said nonchalantly. I frowned at her.
“Right….” I said sarcastically. Taylor snickered almost deviously.
“She’s just a little love struck,” She teased, wringing her hands together and battering her eyelashes in a daze. Cindy glared at her.
“No, I’m not!” She whined, sounding like a child. I laughed.
“So who’s the lucky guy?” I asked her. She didn’t even have to answer, because her eyes flickered to a guy sitting a few rows behind us. I guess she must have freaked out when he walked past us. I’d never seen anyone that in love.
I glanced at him again. Well, I could see where she was coming from. On a hotness scale ranging from one to ten, he was a solid eleven. Lucky girl.
“How long have you two been going out?” I questioned her. She stared at me with wide eyes and a gawking mouth while Taylor burst out laughing. I discreetly ran my tongue across my teeth to check for any leftover food.
“What?” I asked when I didn’t find any. Cindy shook her head.
“That’s Matt Harding,” Cindy hissed. She said his named like he was her favorite celebrity.
