A shudder rose through me and my hairs prickled. How did he know u was here?

The killer's steps grew silent as he walked off. He's going straight to Jennifer's room.

I creak the door open and slip out of the closet unnoticed. My heart rate increased drastically with adrenaline and I pull the hammer back on my nub nosed revolver and aim it at Jeff's head. "Go to sleep you some of a-" the gunfire erased the rest of my sentence.

The bullet just barely skims his face, cutting his greasy black hair and tearing skin off if his pale face.

He turns to me with insanity glinting his expression. "You shot me. But," he moves quicker than I expect a scrawny teenage boy to move, "you missed.

I manage to dodge the madman's knife and run into Jennifer's room. I find her under her bed. I scoop her up and crash through the window.

"Run!" I scream to her.

She stares at me, horror filling her innocent eyes. "But-"

"GO!"

Jeff jumps through the window and grabs my ankle. I spin from being on my stomach to my back. I kick the boy's face and struggle to get to my feet.

I finally get myself up and catch up to the small girl. I pick her up and run as fast as I can.

"YOU CAN NEVER RUN FOREVER!" The horrific voice of Jeff the killer echoes through the street. "YOU WILL GO TO SLEEP!"

We make it to the CSI main office a little after 3 pm. The first person I run into was Anne.

"Zach? Zach what are you doing here? Why did you bring Jennifer?" She looks to her terrified daughter then back up to me, "what's going on?"

I'm out of breath. I pant heavily, unable to speak full sentences. "It... Was... Jeff..." I gasp before continuing. "He... Found... Me... And... Tried... To... Kill..." I take a deep breath, finally able to speak a but more normal. "Your daughter... I managed to stop him, but-"

"He found you?!" Connor, the one person I didn't want to over hear this conversation besides my father.

I roll my eyes. "Yes. I stopped him. But I don't think he's going to quit."

"Jeff never quits." A voice from behind me scares the living hell out of me.

I spin around to see a tall, chubby figured standing before me. "Dad, how do you know?"

"Because. It took him a few months to get your mother. He will go years hunting you down until he finally kills you."

That would've been nice to know before I decided to go after him as a kid, I growl to myself.

"Well, we'd have to kill him." Connor cuts in. "He's too dangerous to keep around."

I nod in agreement.

"Zach," my father, the chief, looks at me with apologetic eyes. "I'm sorry I took you off of this case. You are needed here. I want you to come back to the force-"

"I'm sorry to intrude, but where's Rem?" Anne puts a firm hand on my shoulder.

My eyes widen.

He doesn't know.
