Aphmau POV

I was awake and I could hear soft cries from one of the rooms in the tower.  I got up and slowly made my way towards the crying.  It was from Garroth's room, I took a deep breath and knocked on the door and as soon as I did the cries stopped.

I opened the door slowly and there was Garroth wiping his eyes with his hands, my eyes softened at the sight.  I walked over to him and hugged him rubbing circles into his back.

"Everything is alright," I whispered quietly continuing to rub his back gently.  I partly knew the reason he's having the nightmare, it was because of me.  I continued to rub circles into his back and whisper reassuring words into his ear.

I had to stay strong no matter what, even if my stomach burned like nothing I could describe, I am a lord and I must be strong.  Luckily my shadow knight half took some of the pain I was feeling.  I sighed softly but Garroth still heard me, "Are you alright," he asked soon after, "I'm just thinking," I said softly not wanting to show my actual feelings.  Though, he could relate after all he was one of the most trusted guards in the village.

I just wish I could see my friends, my people, but I guess that won't happen until I fully recover or at least until I am capable of fighting.  Garroth smiles reassuringly "You'll get better," he said softly as I nodded slowly.

Garroth POV

I woke from my horrid nightmare, tears fell from my eyes as soft cries filled my room.  Terrible way to wake up right?  I heard a soft knock, I tried to get myself together and wiped my eyes trying to get rid of the tears.  I looked up and saw Aphmau's soft brown eyes staring at me, as if saying I was ok.

I love her, but I can't, I know I am only a guard and I should respect her as my lord and nothing more.

Sympathy was all I saw in her eyes, but I also saw, behind those soft brown eyes, self-hate.  Aphmau looked like she wanted to say so much more, but it was as if a force stopped her.

I mentally sighed and tried thinking about the dream, but I couldn't remember a thing about it, it was as if a spell was cast on me.  I heard Aphmau sigh softly, I picked up on the soft noise in the quiet room.

"Are you alright," I asked softly, "I'm just thinking," she replied quietly as if trying to mask the pain she felt, but I heard it, I knew the pain all too well.  Aphmau stands up going to leave the room, me thinking stupidly I grab her arm, "Please stay," I mumbled quietly, she was going to leave.

"Alright," she said softly her voice full of sympathy that I despised but appreciated.  I got off the bed and opted to the couch letting her sleep on the bed.  She smiled and gave me a blanket, "Can't have you freezing to death now can I," she said jokingly as I let out a chuckle at her exaggeration.  I took the blanket, the one I've had for years, once a bold blue but now a faded icy blue more suited for me.  I shook my head slightly getting rid of the memories that flooded into my head.  I laid down on the couch and fell fast asleep.  I woke up at the usual time, guards had to be awake very early after all.

I decided to leave Aphmau a note just in case she worried about my absence, it read

Dear Aphmau,                                                                                                                        I have gone to my post, I request you rest to recover your strength.                                                                                                         Garroth
