"What do you mean you don't have to pay for the desk!" Beckett exclaims as she exits from her issued cruiser.
"Well it's not my fault that the coffee spilled," Castle remarks.
"Ohh don't start with me, Castle. We both know who spilt the coffee here. I mean, if it wasn't for you throwing the pen in the first place, we wouldn't be in this mess."
"Hey, I didn't make up the laws of physics." Castle says hopefully.
"Castle, we don't know who or what made up the laws of physics. Scientists discovered it. And besides, that is no excuse"
"- I guess your right, as always. NOT! But don't worry honey, I'll get you a really nice desk, just like before." Castle finishes as he slips his free hand into Beckett's.
She accepts her loves hands as they walk to the crime scene. The detective puts away her giddy smile that nobody sees and replaces it with her somber, business-like face as always. She then delicately releases Castle's hand to get a pair of latex gloves from one of the forensic analyst interns.
"Thanks" Beckett says as she walks past the young intern and bends under the yellow crime scene tape.
"Lanie what do you have for me?" The detective states as she squats down next to her best friend, who studies the cold corpse. Castle stands a few feet behind her, and it seems like he is analyzing Beckett as she examines the body, rather than looking at the Vic for himself. He always got more information that way. The way Beckett studies the scene, her minute movements as she interprets every angle, just like the crime is happening right before her eyes; Detective Beckett's body can tell her writer much more than any crime scene report.
"Looks like the main COD was a stab wound to the stomach, not the fall from 18 stories." The medical examiner gestures with her pen in a gloved right hand up to the open window. "But I'll know more once I get him back to the lab."
"Have CSU sweep the area, and his apartment." Beckett says, looking anxiously at the curious passerby who gets a little too close to the tape . "Any ID?"
"Not his body." Lanie replies "You might want to see if any neighbors can ID him."
As Beckett walks to Espo to assign him that duty, she sees an oddly familiar necklace on the ground right next to the building.
"Hey Castle, does this necklace look familiar to you?" Beckett asks, bending over to examine the piece of jewelry.
"Castle?" Kate questions him only to find the writer pretending to take notes.
"Oh right, coming, " he replies, jogging over to the site.
"There is something wrong here. This necklace belongs to Alexis." he exclaims, bending over next to the detective to get a closer look.
"I gave this to her yesterday. There must be some mistake," Castle states in confusion.
"Well, it could be someone else's from the same jewelry store," Beckett says, trying to comfort Castle. "Hey Ryan, have forensics dust for prints on this necklace. We think it might be relevant."
"On it," he replies, rushing over to one of the forensics, who is talking to Dr. Perish.
Castle pulls out his phone, dialing Alexis. No answer.
"Lanie, is Alexis on duty today?" Castle asks the M.E.
"No, I'm sorry Castle, she asked to have the day off." Lanie shares a sympathetic look with Beckett.
"Castle she's fine. She's probably out with friends, she just might not be able to hear you that all." Beckatt states as she places a arm on her love of her life's arm.
"She never told me that she had any plans with friends. I think she would have told me if she was going somewhere. She said nothing to me this morning at breakfast ." Castle states in a concerned tone as he turns and starts walking in the other direction.
"Try calling her again. Maybe she didn't hear her phone when you called." Beckett tries to comfort him once more, but he is already gone. She walks over to the medical examiner, but not for business reasons.
"Laine, do you think something is wrong with Alexis?" Kate whispers as she crouches next to Laine, who is still examining the body.
"She didn't seem like something was wrong". Laine replies truthfully, standing up from her crouched position next to the body. Kate stands up as well and calls out to det. Ryan from across the tape: "Have CSU continue to sweep the area while writer boy and I get back to the precinct."
"Do I have to do paper work again?" Castle asks rhetorically, returning from his unknown expedition. He slides a cup of her favorite coffee into her hand.
"Grande skim latte, two pumps, sugar free vanilla," Castle informs as she takes a first sip.
"Just what I needed! Especially after you spilled my coffee!" Beckett teases.
"I don't know Castle," Beckett looks at Castle, changing the subject. She smiles as she sees Castle's worried face. "We will find her Castle."
"Where is she?" Castle states as his phone buzzes. He slips his hand in his pocket and looks down toward the screen. A relieved look occupies his face as he taps the answer button on his face and brings the phone to his ear. "It's Alexis," he mouths
"Hello?"
"Hey Alexis, where are you?"
"Where?"
"Ahhh ok at Maddie's"
"Ask about the necklace." Beckett mouths as she stares at her love's face
All she gets is a nod as he speaks into the microphone. "Honey, do you still have your necklace?"
"You do, that's good."
"Okay see you tonight."
As Castle puts his phone into his pocket, his face reveals that the weight of the world left his shoulders when he heard that Alexis is okay.
"We still need to swab it." Beckett states as she nods in confirmation to the CSU guy to put the necklace in the lab truck.
"I'm all finished here as well. I did everything I can do here, and now I'll take this customer to the lab. I'll call you when I find anything else." Lanie says as she stands up and walks away from the corpse, throwing away her gloves in a portable trash can.
