Chapter 3
October 1st 2013
It's been 2 weeks since the start of the semester. London seems like a nice city for living. Summer and Emma are the only people I talk to openly in college. I guess they are sort of my first college friends. I believe this friendship will last long, but I do hope I am able to make some more friends in college. Besides the student board secretary elections are up in 2 months, and I need to get post. Student council and boards are something I have always taken seriously in my life. The reason being I want to be like my dad, the perfect leader since his high school days to his professional career. Oh Dad ... what an amazing guy.
Anyways, in these 2 weeks I got to know more about both Emma and Summer. Well a lot more about Emma than about Summer. Emma like I said before is from the same town as me. She had moved up there during her year 9 in GCSE. Before that she lived in Sunderland, where she went to school with Summer. Summer and Emma were together since pre-school. Summer's aunt and uncle were close with Emma's folks. They both spent most of their time together playing, reading books, having a hell lot of sleepovers, discussing about boys and gossiping about the other girls.
One day I was talking to Summer after school. Emma had to run some errands so she went ahead. That's when I came to know about their friendship.
"So what happened after Emma moved out of town."
"Well she moved into your school and she didn't make many friends in the new school. She had always been the reserved type and I was always worried about her because I knew that she wouldn't be able to make friends. To open Emma up you got to talk to her first, you should make the first move and break the ice otherwise she would shy away from you."
Come to think of it I do remember talking to her briefly at school, we spoke about something ... I couldn't remember what it was.
Summer said that she visited Emma as often she could and even forced her to talk to new people, but that didn't help. That answers it, that's why she spoke to me.
" ... then I decided to come to the same college as hers. We both wanted to become architects and going to the same college I could help Emma become a social personal and try to change her shy personality."
On my way back I tried to remember about that conversation with Emma, what was it about? I recall that she came to me after the farewell where I gave my last speech as Headboy after which I graduated. I still remember the end of the speech.
*Flashback*
"School life is something we all will miss, believe me we will. All the amusing times we spent with our friends and teachers. I am telling you, cherish this. Believe me you're never going to see anything like this again. So live in this moment, breathe it in!"
"All the things you did in school, from playing football, dancing in class, singing in class, working on the class board with your friends, working on the assembly topic, deciding the class monitor, sleeping in class, playing with the rubber band, getting rejected by that girl, that girl accepting your proposal, the prom, the punishments, the gay jokes, the mean jokes, the jokes about your weird name, the joke about your friends weird name, the nick names, the teachers lectures, the teachers usual remarks, the times you spent in the bus, failing classes and topping class. All these are remarkable moments spent with your family."
"This school is my family, it's our family. And parting from family hurts ... it hurts a lot. It takes a part of you away with it while parting ways. At the same time it gives you a part of it. That part ... that part is all the wonderful memories of the time you spent with the. Cherish those memories, keep them close to your heart. Learn from them, Look back upon them and cry tears of happiness because these times they aren't coming back, but you were happy to be a part of them. And you wouldn't give anything in the world for the time you spent with your family."
"That's all, go live your life and don't forget one thing -
All of you are lucky. In what way you ask, well ... You did get the hottest and most amazing head boy of all time."
The crowd erupted with claps and laughs. I looked around and saw the familiar faces, the faces soon to become unknowns. There was a gloomy happiness in the air, I saw a girl approaching me. I had seen her in my classes but didn't ever talk to her. She looked scared.
"Hi, I'm Emma"
"Hi, Liam. Please to meet you."
"Nice speech you gave there, it touched my heart."
"It was nothing, just spoke from my heart."
She looked at me and smiled.
"Do you believe in love?"
"Excuse me what?"
"Excused. I asked whether you believe in love or not?"
"Yes, but my concept of love is quite different. I believe that love doesn't require compromise, trust and sacrifices. I believe that if really love someone all these qualities themselves are embedded in the love you give to the person. It already is a part of your nature. It becomes a part of you. Also, I think that you don't know what love is till you feel it. What do you think?"
"I believe that if you love someone, you love someone. It doesn't have to be complicated."
"Well that is what I implied in complicated ways."
"If that is what you said then its good for ..."
"Good for whom?"
"Good for ... The teacher behind you is calling you""Huh? Ok. Emma it was a pleasure. I'll talk to you again"
*End Flashback*
I never spoke to her after that, Now come to thin of it I never got the answer from her. Who was it good for? Maybe she knew someone who had a crush on me. Maybe ...
"LIAM! GET OUT OF THE WAY."
"WHAT? What are you doing and how did you get there?"
I turn around to find Emma, who some how popped up from her work, and Summer running towards me with something coming fast behind them. What is that? Is that a car? Is it a man? No, that's a dog running behind them. Come to think of it, the situation did seem hilarious and I would have laughed like a dog an probably would make a video and post it on Facebook and Snapchat if not for the fact that they were running in the same direction as me.
Thank god I saw the owner of the dog come calling the Doberman back to his house. But Summer and Emma didn't see that and kept on running at full speed towards me.
"Wait! The do ..."
As I said that Emma tripped on a stone and instead of falling in my arms like a romantic movies, fell over me and I fell head first into the pavement. Next thing I know I could hear faint noises, which sounded familiar. Oh! That was Emma's voice. She sounds worried and is crying holding my head. Suddenly everything went blur.
