Bennett -

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

"Why is it only Monday?" I groaned horrified as I climbed out of bed sleepily turning off my alarm clock. I jumped in the shower, washed and quickly dressing in a pale blue button up and khakis. I grabbed white socks to go with my red converse. I ate my dry toast with warm tea in a hurry so I wouldn't be late. I brushed my teeth, gagging myself in the process of scrubbing my tongue. With a swish of mouth wash and some slight flossing, I grabbed my book bag and rushed to the door. "Bye mum!" I called out closing the door.

I jogged towards the corner where my bus picks me up. I checked my mobile to see one new message from Oliver. I rolled my eyes, it was a Facebook notification telling me to play Clash of Clans. I stuffed the device in my pocket, it serving no use to me at the moment. I looked out into the grey sky, it was always gloomy out now.

The screech of rubber tires against the road brought me back to reality. A big, yellow bus stood in front of me. Its doors opened wide welcoming me to the narrow stair case. "Hello sir," I greeted as I walked up the short steps.

"Good morning," the bus drive said as I walked down the aisle. I glanced around the seats to hopefully find a free space. I spotted Hope and headed over to her.

"Hello Hope," I said, only to be ignored. I squinted at her, and noticed her earbuds. She probably didn't even hear me. I grabbed her bag and sat in its place holding it on my lap. She looked up seeing as someone was messing with her stuff. Her eyes scanned my face, but all I could notice was her puffy eyes and swollen cheek. She wore a black jumper and skinny jeans. She has obviously lost weight, her cheeks were sunken in and she had bad bags under her eyes.

"Are you okay?" I asked, my eyes are wide as I keep looking at her. It looks as if she hasn't slept or eaten in days. She pulled out one of her earbuds.

"What?" She questions looking at me concerned as if I had gone completely bonkers.

"Are you okay?" I asked again but this time looking into her eyes, which held so much sadness and pain I had to look away.

"I'm fine," she snapped, her eyes had hardened and she was building up her walls.

"Sorry," I said holding up my hands in defense.

She sighed and handed me a earbud. I nodded my thanks and put it in. The song blasting was Bulls and The Bronx by Pierce the Veil. She changed it quickly with nimble fingers to a happy song. Feel Again by One Republic blasted into my ear. The bus ride was short with music blasting in my ear. When the bus finally stopped Hope didn't get up to shove her way off.

"What happened to your cheek?" I asked my curiosity getting the better of me.

"Nothing, I got in a fight with Faith. I'm fine," she spoke fast as she started unconsciously staring at her fabric covered arm.

"Oh," I said feeling the conversation starting to dissipate. "You know you can talk to me right?"

"Who are you my father? I don't need anyone, I can do everything fine on my own! I am not crazy," she started to yell, startling me.

"I never said you were, I just wanted to say in case anything happens I'm here." I covered quickly, in fear she'll flipped out on me again.

"You weren't there when I needed you the most." She snapped, abruptly standing up and walking past me, off the bus.

I sat there shell shock for a second, and quickly snapped out of it rushing off the bus to go chase her. "What do you mean I wasn't there for you?" I asked completely oblivious.

"Never mind, I'd rather not talk about it." She brushed it off like it was absolutely nothing which angered me.

"No, you said I wasn't there and I want to know when," I insisted stubbornly. Why don't you stomp your foot too? Ah I'm acting like a five year old.

"Bennett please drop it," she said in a hushed voice.

"I just want to know when!" I exclaimed grabbing her wrist when she tried to dash away.

She cried out in pain. My eyes widened and I dropped her wrist, holding up my hands in surrender. What'd I do?

"You weren't there when my mum died," she whispered and ran into the brick building that's caused me so many fake stomach aches. But unlike all the other times, I actually felt sick.

Her mum is dead? I'm such a arse! I can't believe I never knew her mum died. But she was alive when me and Hope were dating... Is her death why we broke up?

"Hello hobknocker!" Oliver teased punching my arm.

I scold at him, I was definitely not in the mood. "What's got your panties in such a twist this morning."

"Hope," I said awkwardly.

"Oh the hot emo?" He asked innocently.

I punched him in the arm. "Yes her," I felt a blush creep onto my cheeks.

"What'd she want?" He was full of questions today, isn't he?

"She told me her mum had died," I shudder at the thought of not having my mum.

"Ouch, why did you even bring that up you twat?" He pinched my arm.

"She said I wasn't there for her and I asked when and then it got out of hand. I think she has something wrong with her arm, she cried when I touched her wrist gently." I shrugged looking over at him. Of course he was being a randy to a passing girl.

"Talk to her during science, you're still lab partners right?" He asked looking back at me.

"Yes, but I think she'll ignore me. But I'll give it a shot," I said as the bell rung. "See you later."

"Bye," he waved rushing to the other side of the school. I walked into my first period class, gym.

"We have the pitch today!" Jack yelled over the chaos in the locker room. I pulled my shirt over my head and looked at the dry erase board to see were playing American Football. Why can't we just be learning about the chemical reaction between salt and ice rather than being morons and tackling each other?

"Don't piss your pants Welby, it's just a game," Jacob taunted.

I glared at him going back over to my locker. "Hey Welby, did you do the math homework?" Oscar asked standing next to me.

"My name is Bennett and yes I did, why?" I looked over at him. How is that even a question? I always do my homework.

"Can you give me the answer to number forty one?"

I looked at his notebook to see the problem. "It's easy, you add the exponents and leave the base. It's basic review, but the answer is five to the second power."

He nodded jotting my answer quickly. He walked over to his bag shoving the book into it. I yank on my shoes, waiting patiently to be dismissed.

What did you think of Bennett?

What about his friend Oliver?

Lovable nerds, so perffff. Sorry if this is slightly boring because it is really just a filler so you can meet Bennett. But don't worry I am going to have lots of drama and secret confessions and fights soon so please keep reading.
